Good to meet a fellow pilot... I assume you are grounded by the prices as I am (Still getting a license was a great experience and I hope to use it again someday... perhaps under sport pilot rules.)

We have three kids also, but first two were sons, so I had to have a daughter... I think if the second was a girl we would only have two kids... I still can't believe my eldest starts college next year.

Ever tried it? I have (not on an iLiad, of course) more than once. And it's not as simple as you probably think and looks very artificial unless you more or less redraw the highlights and texture from scratch.

And besides, i doubt someone with enough skills to do that would be so careless and sloppy as to forget to do a simple masked lens blur and fix the contrast on a faked, pasted screenshot (which is exactly what iRex did with the product shots).

I'm 99.99% positive the PR shots were authentic (except for the screen of course) and about as sure i would've easily noticed if they weren't.

Regardless of all that... I find it a bit worrying that iRex is pulling cheap shots like painting the device silver (i guess they took the PRS-505 as a hint) and bundling free books with it. It could be interpreted as a last ditch attempt at salvaging sales... :/
The (probably too few) work hours that went into marketing BE could've been better invested into developing the existing software (if not hardware), IMHO.

Yeah, I tried already. I'm pretty much into photoshop and graphisms BTW, there is almost no texture on the iLiad BE, that's why I thought it might be photoshop montage. However, after seeing a real picture of it, it indeed looks like a photoshop montage of a black iLiad ^^

Looks like another ebook reader is ready to go on sale. I went to the Astek site and they have a picture with the spec. of the 9.7 in.

Absolutely not "ready to go on sale". Last time I looked, they were suggesting September as a shipping date, and that is, I think, likely to slip considerably.

so other than the color and the preloaded books, is there any real difference between the V.2 Illiad and the book edition.

I want to get this reader mostly for academic reading and notes. And wondering whether the book edition would be good enough for that.

well, I payed for my iLiad V2 499 euro and got also one year nrc epaper for free (worth 189 euro) but this is a service from nrc handelsblad for subsrcibers of the daily newspaper.
wifi works very good, even in other places, only the epaper is full off bugs and things wich do not belong in it..so i dont read the epaper anymore.
books are so wonderfull to read, in the garden under the blistering sun...

The difference is that the BE doesn't have integrated wifi card.

Now that you've mentioned it, it does look a bit wonky. That's precisely why i think it doesn't have the rubberized "soft-touch" finish anymore, but is semi-glossy instead. In any case, i don't like it, i don't see the point of it and i definitely won't turn in my sleep because i've ordered a (cheaper) V1 instead of it

The book edition is definetly good enough for that.

However for academic reading/note-taking I'd strongly suggest to buy (matching) a WACOM Executive Pen for it, its 100 to 1 times better than the toothpick that comes with the device they call "stylus":..

Somebody who got the chance to actually touch it said it doesn't have the rubberized touch anymore.

I don't like it either

Definitely does not have the soft touch finish. I tried one and prefer the regular v2, it feels much better in the hand with the soft touch finish. The silver is also a little bit shiny which could make it less comfortable for reading in a sunny environment. I also could not get any of the hacks such as the fullscreen ipdf to work, although shell access appeared to download and install fine.

Perhaps someone has already mentioned this, but I believe some few people have reported the rubberised finish becoming scratched, or rubbing off. Perhaps this feature has been determined a bug, and squashed.
