Catch-22 is kind of... boring. I'll give it another go, but if things can't be worked out between Yossarian and me, I'll return the book early.

I never could get into it either. So many people rave about it but glad to know I'm not the only one who found it boring.

Thanks for that. I read a good book by Wooding called The Fade.

I've always been interested in reading more and the steampunk vibe I got from the cover of Retribution Falls did catch my attention.

Looks like Amazon has dropped the prices on this years "Best American" series of books. They are all available in ebook versions this year.
for example:

If anyone likes a kind of Tony Parsons vibe only much more humorous Scratch by Danny Gillan is absolutely brilliant. Definitely recommended and definitely proof positive that there are excellent self published authors out there (whatever the people on the Amazon forums think). It made me laugh a lot.

Cheers

Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia. its a long book (700+ pages) but its a ton of fun. its a hyper-masculine, call of duty meets the monster squad urban fantasy. by "hyper-masculine" i mean the main character practically pops a boner while discussing firearms. would you expect anything less from Baen? . seriously though, its a very fun and likeable book.

Finished the last book in the Halcyon trilogy. I thought this book was the best one out of the three. When I started the whole trilogy I thought the whole steampunk thriller concept was an odd mix, but it worked very well. Now I'm starting on Dralin which I have high hopes for being a good read.

I agree - it and the two sequels currently available are a lot of fun (I believe there is a fourth on the way). You might be interested in reading this (rather old) thread on the subject:

#2 is good, but #3 isn't exactly so. Harbinger being the narrator is okay, but Harbinger dating a girl?

Oh, well I quite enjoyed the change of narrator, and thought it was as good as the previous two. And it was good to see his "softer" side .

I finished The Nine Planets by Edward Riche. It was okay. I don't think it would be overly funny unless someone had lived in Newfoundland for a while. Definitely a book that paints an image and leaves the resolution open which would annoy a lot of people.

Now it's on to Sputnick Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami.
