Wow, that's rather underwhelming. Other than a handful of years old bestsellers, it's mostly that Vook stuff - republished public domain classics and dubious guides (which also happen to be offered free all the time, and didn't want it for that price, either).

Indeed, a lot of the titles are the ones that were formerly free for a while. I hope this isn't just going to replace that...

There are some good books in there - "Kitchen Confidential," "Guns, Germs, and Steel," "Fast Food Nation," "Charlie Wilson's War," "The Zookeeper's Wife," etc. But it's kind of hard to filter them.

I just borrowed Already Gone, a $4.99 book that was on my wishlist that I likely would have bought this month with a swagbucks Amazon gift certificate. Now I can read it for free, and pick out another book or two with my gc. I'm quite happy.

There definitely are some gems, but they are hidden. I found a good way to filter was to browse the Prime Eligible list on your computer. Pick a category like History or Mysteries & Thrillers. Then keep scrolling down on the left, and you can see filters by author or series. Just looking at the authors for the various categories helped me to find some books that I was interested in. Hope that helps!

Yep. I doubt many people want to spend their monthly borrowing allowance on "Semiconductors 101: The Animated TextVook" (which is free for the Kindle anyway). Amazon could assign someone to re-order the list, I'd think.

Definitely a plus for Amazon Prime, and it was already well worth the annual fee. I was wanting to re-read Kitchen Confidential anyway, but was resisting buying the eBook since I'm sure we have the pbook version SOMEWHERE in this house. Now? It's loaded on my Kindle.

This is a plus to owning a Kindle but the list of books is not that appealing. I guess this is to compete with the free books offered on the Nook and Kobo.

Uh, you do know Kindle has its own free ebook offers, right?
At any point in time you'll find more free ebooks on Kindle than on Nook and Kobo.

The lending library is about giving Prime subscribers a nice little bonus more than about adding value to Kindle itself.
