Stopped spelling it "coloUr" after getting one too many odd comments
![]() And yeah, i've meant the silver case. Makes it look cheapish ;D |

Didn't i just state the opposite? I wrote the silver/white color makes the device look cheapish, not black.
And besides, you're mixing up and oversimplifying things. You've mixed up finish and color, beige and white, impression of quality and adherence to fads. Beige was *the* cheap color, not white. Apple hasn't made white fashionable, it made white lucite and glossy finish fashionable (and they weren't the first to use those as a fashion statement, BTW). Furthermore, faux metallic finishes always have* and always will look ugly and "cheap" - except, perhaps, in USA** ![]() Rubberized black was and is > fake metallic silver/white ![]() * anyone remember first iPAQ's? ** also faux leather, faux wood and other fake finishes |

My point was, its all in your head
![]() Really what we consider expensive/cheap on color/feeling has a lot to do with market culture, and what past devices looked like... now some notebooks for example have this high-reflective finish to look precious, to give the people associations of expensive pianos that looked like this. Thats for me crap. No finish stores your fingerprints better ![]() I think much more important than our expensive/cheap associations is reading ergonomy. There is reasearch that a light border color is better for the eyes than a black, thats why today black TFT-screens do not get the TCO99 quality mark. I think this might have been a main reason why iRex switched to silver... if they actually did they job well reading about ergonomy studies, if not they were just lucky.... LOL. Almost died of cardiac arrest when I saw iRex just released a new iLiad (I bought mine 10 days ago).
But then... new color is ugly, and it doesn't have the wifi (although I still haven't been able to make wifi work on my iLiad ^^). All in one, I'm glad I bought the v2. Also, people, did you notice that the Book Edition doesn't come with the super sexy top quality protecting sleeve ? ^^ |

My point was, the color preference was stated half-jokingly. Hence the smiley
![]() However, the change may be ergonomical too - i don't know if they've changed the finish (can't be told from the photos), but it can affect slipping and sweating. Glossy and/or shiny devices usually aren't too comfortable to hold for prolonged periods of time, unlike matte/rubberized ones. |

The color point is interesting. I've always preferred the darker colors because they seem to feel or appear "richer" to me. However, when I bought my prs505 I decided to try the silver and found the lower contrast between screen and frame was easier/preferable for reading. Side by side compared to my prs500 in the dark blue/purple and greatly preferred the silver.
I have a book edition scheduled to arrive today so I'll let everyone know if it still keeps the soft touch paint with the silver or if it is strictly plastic. Not sure why I bought it since I already have a V2, but my daughter has been clamoring for an ereader so she can get one of the hand me downs. |

Does anyone know about the battery life on the book edition? If it's good for 10 hours, I may need to charge it every two or three days if I read around 3 hours each day. And since it's good for 400 charges, the battery will last for a bit over a year. Is my calculation correct? I just find it silly to have to send it back to somewhere to have the battery replace.

If I'm just reading I'll use my CyBook, if I'm scribbling I'll use my v1 iLiad.
For/against Book Edition + Big Screen + Note Taking - Price - Battery Life - Books ~ so what ~ I can download these for free anyway I don't see where / to whom this product is being pitched to be honest |

The reason I chose iliad before cybook was simply that I didn´t want WinCE. |
