Yes, I am aware of this. And if it makes you feel better, my vision has distilled down to just Harry selling Avon.

I'm currently reading Dark Legacy and I'm really not sure I want to finish it. I'm 30% and almost 16 chapters into what could be a very interesting story, if the author wasn't trying so hard. In an attempt to ramp up the suspense, she has created a very disjointed, over-dramatized and angry book.
So my questions:

1. At what point do you give up?

2. Have you ever gone back to a book you once thought you couldn't read/finish?

3. If you do put it down, do you count it as "read"?

4. If you count it as "read" do you count it towards the challenge?

i have an account there but am not active (or a member of) any groups.

when i've convinced myself that there's no chance that i'll get interested enough to continue.

yes, mostly because of sheer hardheadedness on my part.

nope, i call that state of things, begun

"Begun"...nice!

I have 3 books on my "Did Not Finish" shelf. One I may try to read again someday and the other I know I won't. So I may move the first to a "Begun" shelf instead.

i created a custom colored column using 'text, but with a fixed set of permitted values' where the two values (Read & Begun) have different color attributes and then there's a blank no-value as well.

Yes, I saw. Very nice1 I haven't tried color coding anything as yet.

Besides the "Read" column I have a "yes or no" column for it being on the kile (since the Calibre one goes away if the Kindle is not pluged it), and a "yes or no" option for Text to speech" although I may get rid of that one since 1) Onlly one of my books has it disabled and 2) The text to speech function sounds awful! All of my other custom colors are text based, but like I said, none use color.
