[GUI Plugin] Kindle Collections (old)

When I use the Kindle Collection plug in to change fonts, I receive this message. "At least one custom font is missing a file in the Kindle fonts directory and will not be selectable." What does it mean?

If you use your installed font, you can only use that one. If you switch back to the standard font, you lose the custom font & have to run the plugin again. (I have used the font portion of the plugin before, though I haven't played with the collections functions much yet.)

Here's from the instructions in the first post here:

You can copy any number of fonts to your Kindle's font directory. The plugin will show a list of all fonts it finds (but each font must have the 4 files with the name pattern above, e.g. MyFont-Regular.ttf, ...). Only 1 font can be used by the Kindle at a time - you will need to use the plugin and restart the Kindle to change fonts.
To change back to a regular font, just use the "Aa" key to select "std". To use your custom font select "alt" (if "alt" is no longer available, use the plugin to reselect your custom font).

Check to make sure you have four font styles in the fonts directory -- regular, bold, italic, and bold italic.

Worked perfectly!! Now to figure out which font will have the best contrast and easiest to read for old eyes!! Thanks so much.

I have some books in russian -
when I click manage collections manually
the list of books appears, in that list russian
books show up as jibberish instead of title/author name.
Interestingly in a tool tip that appears if I hover mouse over
the book, the title and author appear correctly.

Hmmm, that old issue of language encoding looks like it will never go away...

Can you run Preview Collections and then click on the Show Detail button when it shows up. Find the line starting "System Encoding" in the report and post what it says here.

Do other books show up ok?

Are you able to post an example book here (or PM a link to a copy). I'd be interested to see if it lists ok for me.

This is a rare (or it least it was) issue with a date missing in the book file. A previous test version of the plugin fixed it - in an earlier post. I'll be posting a new version with the fix this week.

It means my error message isn't very clear Although you've already sorted this out, I'll be making the error message a bit better by having it list the exact font file that is missing.

Thank you, meme! I get a similar error no matter what I try to do with the "collections" side of the plugin. The other tweaks (for font, etc.) work great.

It shows UTF-8. But the issue seems to be gone.
No idea what I did differently.

English ones, yes. Only had a single russian one at a time.

Are you able to post an example book here (or PM a link to a copy). I'd be interested to see if it lists ok for me.

Hmm. I think there might be an issue in displaying Russian characters - but at this point I don't know what the fix would be. Its good to see its working for you anyway, whatever you did.

Version 1.7.8 has been released. It should show up as a plugin to update in Calibre soon.

This is mainly the latest in a few test releases of minor bug fixes for specific cases, but also includes support for comic and audio books.

Amazingly, it looks like the 1.7.0 version of the plugin has been downloaded over 40,000 times
