What exactly do you call "reading a book" ? - Page 5

I remember them! I would check them out at the school library. Then when my mom pulled me out of school due to her mental illness I got them through my cousins who didn't read. They would check them out for me. Then later through my young nieces who lived with us.

My love for reading has always been there. No one in my family reads so I was the oddball. My family thought it was strange for me to want to read books.

I can say I read a paperback slower than an ebook. I believe this is due to font size and my eyes. I have to take breaks when reading a paperback. Specially those old romance novels. The print is tiny!

Actually, the only book I have ever skimmed through was the 5th in a series, which I had already read, and having then started from book #1 I wanted to keep the continuity going when I got back to #5 again. Otherwise I either read the whole thing, or give up completely if I'm not enjoying it (and I've only done that about 3 times in my life).

I read it all. If you skip parts you haven't really read it all IMO.

Let's not forget that "The right to skip" is the 2nd right of the reader according to Daniel Pennac (French writer and teacher)

If the author spends three pages describing some weapon, I feel no need to read that. Sex scenes are often similar. When it's clear that something doesn't matter to the plot, why bother? Some authors' minds wander something terrible.

It's just those peolpe who claim to read at least one book a day.
They'll have to only be reading, eating and sleeping, every day

I go through spurts but I do get into "one book a day" moods. I guess I just read fast. I used to do it while working full-time and I still do it now as a SAHM with a 2yr old.

I don't know about reading a hundred pages a day (only if I'm not working) but I can average about 20 or more during an hour. I don't tend to watch the telly much so an evening reading is a joy.

I like to read the words, may skip the Introduction if it's a total snooze and only scan or speed read if it's a book or manual I need for work. And some books, some authors I wish would write more so I could curl up with their proper use of the English language and just purr. XD

I try to read all... sometimes if it's way too boring (a long description of some object or whatever) then I just skip a few lines.
