I use my "opinion filter" when reading any forum thread.

When asking for an opinion or comparing/contrasting on anything we should remember none of us, not even the pro's that do it for a living, have the ability, time or products to compare/contrast "all" of the product available. It is especially true for us, the end user. I've never owned an ereader other than a Sony product therefore I can't say how my T1, 300 or 505 would compare to another brand's device or even a different device by the same company. I've played with some in the local big boxes but not long enough to generate any sort of opinion of value. We also tend to be "passionate"...extremist, rabid, throw in your own description...when talking about something we love/hate and it is often a mix of info. So far, after 3 weeks of heavy use, my T1 still works perfectly as does my 300 and 505...the 505 has a broken slider switch but still works fine with a paper clip and the "slider". But for me the T1 is the best of the bunch. |

Twice last weekend I had this same issue shortly after waking up. Tonight I had a new type of freeze. After waking up, the touch screen was immediately unresponsive. The button keys worked though. In all cases, I think that the reader had put itself into sleep mode versus me doing it with the power button.

IR touch screens work using sensors in the edge of the screen:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchscreen#Infrared So if the touch stops working but the buttons still work then try gently cleaning under the rim around the screen. |

I have had my T1 for a week, it has frozen 3 times so far, i have reset it each time and it works again.

I hold it like my 350 in one hand with my thumb swiping from the bottom to the left side. I have sent a mail to Sony with the information, and I hope that everyone else does the same. The more that complains the better the chance of a fix. And as far as I can tell, this is a software/firmware bug. Which doesn't surprise me as this the first with android underneath. Ripplinger: The fact that it is glossy, doesn't bother me, I also have a 350 and 2 Booken readers which are non-glossy. |

It wasn't a software problem with mine. It stopped responding to the screen after I'd had it 4 days, but it was still responding to the buttons. I ran my finger nail under the rim around the screen and it blinked and started working again.

A lot of the problems others are having sure sound similar to me, the touch stops working but the buttons still work suggesting it hasn't actually crashed. Anyway it doesn't cost anything to try it. |

I got the T1 on release day and I just got the "rapid page turns and freezing"-issue for the first time (and I have read everyday for several hours).

And it's not like I press the screen too hard or too long. I just make a gentle, light and quick swipe. I barely touch the screen. Anyway, as long as it's not going to happen too often, I can live with it, as long as I know Sony is at least working on it. |

How many people had problem after they voted? Also ... 43% with no problems doesn't seem to be very encouraging statistic ... |

I do not have T1 yet. The only Sony reader I have is PRS-500.

So I would be risking being called a Troll ;-) I was seriously considering getting one. A friend of mine is travelling to USA and I wanted to ask him to buy one for me. I do not think I will. I know that a person that does have a problem is much more likely to post or vote, but still ... I can't risk having to return it. Even if it is half the price when purchased directly in USA |

After 3 weeks, I had another of these issues today. I am reading another large book (~700 pages) which is DRM'ed and purchased from the Sony store. Both screen swipe and buttons moved forward and backward from Page 587 directly to 590 skipping the pages in between. Again, it was at the transition between two chapters. I loaded the next chapter from the table of contents view and all was normal again. I read the first ~550 pages on my 350 and never had any issues with this particular book. In fact the copy on my 350 is heavily annotated whereas I have only made a few notes in the copy on my T1.

I have not had a page flipping/lock up since I uninstalled Sony's Reader software and started using Calibre. Coincidence?

Just to update, weeks later, still only 1 page-flip touchscreen freeze on the replacement device.

I´ve had the freezing problem occur four or five time, but it is always fixed by putting the device to sleeping and waking it up (one short press on the on/off button for each). Is this the same for everyone? Because 20 seconds every third day isn´t really a problem for me, assuming it won´t get worse.
