I fiddled around with the 8125 some more last night. I had already sideloaded the Market using the usual methods, and I was able to download apps from it and the Applib, but the flaky wifi made it very unreliable. The screen size works well for displaying comic books, though the Droid Comic Reader app left a bit to be desired. I finally gave up on trying to get it to work, and shipped it back to the merchant over lunch today. Hopefully I will get a working model back from them, or my money back. Edit: I will say one thing: I like the Android operating system better the more I use it. Last edited by JAcheson; 10-28-2011 at 02:53 PM. Reason: Added a thought |

Looks like Coby's changing up their form factor a little bit 7127. I was honestly tempted (different chip than my dead 7024), but it's still the lower screen resolution. If it was the 1024x600, I'd probably do it and cancel the Vox (faster processor), but I'm rather set on the screen resolution. The Galaxy has spoiled me!
Still not sure if I'll regret the Vox or not. Other Kobo owners have said that their devices are works in progress, as in, Kobo continuously develops and updates them. Can't update the processor, but they can fine tune firmware and whatnot. I feel better about the $189 (no tax!) price vs. Lenovo's $245 (after tax), but I feel the Ideapad is higher quality and has more capabilities, but Lenovo can't give me a straight answer, and at least Kobo seems a little more upfront about what they do and don't offer. Fiance offered an interesting proposal, that I cancel the Vox, too, and let him contribute to the cost of the Samsung 7 or HTC Flyer or something for Christmas, but I still can't justify the cost of those. Gah, why is this agony? Our answers must think we're just silly, silly people. |

My 7022 arrived yesterday and have been comparing it to my 7024. One thing that surprised my was the speed comparisons. The 7024 is noticeably faster. I thought at first that it must have to do with the added overhead of OS2.3 vs 2.2 but it turned out to be the difference in processors. The 7024 is using the Samsung S5PV210 Cortex A8 while the 7022 is using the Telechip TCC8803 Cortex A8. The 7022's capacitive screen is two touch and is not very responsive. The capacitive screen is also a finger print magnet. I use a capacitive stylus on my Toshiba Thrive to keep finger prints down but the 7022 won't respond to the stylus (two different makes). I can't see a bit of difference between the two as far as quality of the display. The 7022 has also lost the volume rocker switch and the stereo speakers. It is also 10 grams heavier (as weighed on my wife's trusty kitchen scales). The build qualities are comparable but the bezel arrangement on the 7024 are easier for me to hang on to. They are slightly raised on the 7024 but are flush on the 7022. Maybe it's just me but I prefer the 7024. It could be I'm biased because I am used to it. Who knows? I dropped the 7022 on a rug this morning and my screen now responds better to my finger touches. I am going to check to see if I might have a defective tablet. "Dropkick Maintenance"? Regards - John |

I was looking at the Vizio 8 today, then read that it won't actually let you put apps on your SD card, so you're stuck with whatever is left on the 4gb drive after factory settings. ![]() |
