OK -- I decided to check out the chat facility here -- I do not see it on the home page when I click the "Home" link in the header above. I have scrolled up & down, side to side, and looked underneath all the twisties and I still can't find it.

Click the "Forums" link at the very top, above the logo. I think not many ever land on that page, but the stats should tell.

There is the simple chat added in the forum main page, and then Igorsk setup an IRC channel. He posted the details earlier in this thread, the 'mibbit' link is an easy IRC client that you access thru your web browser.

Once in, change your nick like this, /nick Taylor514ce

I've never received any "unsavory invitations" on Freenode. That network is primarily used by people working on various open source projects and does not have many "general chat" channels. Also, it requires nick registration to send private messages and that really cuts down on spamming.
