What a sad lot some of you are. No conscience and proud of it.

Others seem to twist a bit and try to explain things away. Maybe you do have a conscience that you are struggling to live with.

There are a few that seem to understand where I am coming from.

I do not claim to be a saint and I am certainly not rich, but I do know what makes me be at ease with my self. One day something happened that made me very proud. I was with a friend in a port and it was a beautiful day that we had off, and we had gone to a market and I had just picked up some things for people back home.

My friend had been looking but he hadn't got anything. I asked if he was going to get something before we left. He said no, that he was going to be short that month. I said to go ahead and pick something out for his family, and I would loan him the money.

He said that he didn't want to do that, because when I loaned money, I never asked for it back or reminded people that they owed it. I insisted and he borrowed a little to get something for his child.

Money can't buy that kind of good feeling.

A lot of you are missing out on the pleasure of being generous.

Adj. miserly - (used of persons or behavior) characterized by or indicative of lack of generosity
Doesn't if fit the description of someone who doesn't want to lend books to their friends?

By the way, you seem like a pretty selfish person. Loaning money to friends just because it makes you feel good? That's a pretty self serving motivation.

Any time I have lent money to friends, I have done so for no reason other than the fact that they needed it.

Perhaps you should consider doing things for others for a change. The world doesn't revolve around you, you know.

No, she just knows her friends and knows how they've acted in the past, and has modified her own behavior to avoid causing unnecessary conflicts with her friends. That doesn't mean that anyone is being judged. Judging unfairly would be to assume that they wouldn't return the book without any prior indications of that.

Now, let's do what the moderator asked and drop this, or at the very least start being polite and civilized again. Whether it's selfish to refuse to lend someone a cherished item or not has absolutely nothing to do with whether DRM is good, bad, or necessary. Except possibly in the indirect way that most DRM prevents lending the book anyway, so this whole tangent becomes a moot point.

True acts of "generosity" are just performed and then never mentioned again... describing to someone how generous you've been kind of negates a selfless act, doesn't it?

Besides... generosity is largely immaterial to a discussion about whether giving friends/family access to sensitive account information (for the purpose of sharing ebooks) is a good idea (act) or a bad one.

My favorite part is when someone says "You should let people borrow your books because I once helped a friend who needed some food" and doesn't get the difference.

It's good to know that books have now achieved the same important status as food.
