now you're talking little lady. I am a sucker for a woman in a little black dress.

Of course, you can't "share" an ebook at all if an author doesn't write a book because its not worth his while to do so. Well-known professional authors-people who write to make a living-are the ones who insist on DRM. NOTHING that has been written on this thread would convince such a writer to give up on DRM, since quite a few folks on this thread oppose DRM precisely because it hinders them from violating copyright (what they falsely call "sharing).
I fear that what will happen is that simply fewer quality novels will be produced, as authors go to other forms of writing where their rights and incomes will be protected. We shall see.
Unless and until the " casual sharing" problem is addressed, DRM will continue.
And yet, the German Publisher BasteiLuebbe releases its ebooks without DRM.

"unwilling to share with those in need" - Those "in need" of an entertaining
novel? Those who suffer from the lack of a good read? Or is it those who
feel entitled to whatever they might think they "need"? (I think I ran into
one of those "needy" people at the grocery the other day. He was about
5 or 6 years old and insisted on letting the entire store know how devastated
he was, that his mom wouldn't give him something he wanted/needed.)

"Miserly" - I prefer Frugal economical in use or expenditure; prudently
saving or sparing; not wasteful.

The idea of fostering a dependence in others, goes against my respect for
self sufficiency. I would rather associate myself with those who develop
the resources, through their own efforts, than with those who would demand
it be given to them. (Your world of greedy little 5 year olds still needs some
parents that can say No.) [If I didn't live in Texas, I might be worried
that my front lawn might be "Occupied" for stating such sentiments.]

Luck;
Ken

alas not all of theirs.

@SeaKing
I'd hardly classify the wish of wanting to read a partcular book as being in need.

a glass of cold water poured over the neck would have cured him

"Miserly" - I prefer Frugal
IMO being frugal is absolutely ok - i'm too.
regardless of that there's nothing wrong with helping someone really in need but for me this means someone asking me for bread and a glass of water, some no longer used clothes etc. That's need

the rest you speak about Ken has been summarized with :TANSTAAFL

Does it strike anyone else as ironic that the majority of anti-DRM proponents in this thread are now being insulted as a group because they don't want to share their eBooks?

I thought with the Nook you can enter the credit card info once and all other B&N ebooks will open automatically?
If so, can you take their nook, enter your credit card number yourself, and hand it back to them?

My thoughts are if I will risk my life for certain family and friends then they can have my credit card number.

Of all the condescending insulting garbage!

I am not a charitable, non profit institution. I work hard for what I have acquired, and I have learned the hard way that those who have not done the acquiring of my books didn't take very good care of them. So I simply stopped lending them out.

If they want to read one of my books I will point them in the direction of the store or the library. But they aren't getting one of mine to jack up, ruin, lose, or lend it out to someone else.

And those in need, can get their need filled at the library for free.

Yes you only need to enter it once. To counter these people who can't trust their
siblings or parents with their credit card information a single purpose debit card works just as well.
