Amazon's hold on DC Comics could hurt consumers

There may be something to what he says about Amazon's control of DC Comics electronic distribution. I'll leave that to others.

My rant is about the ignorance of people towards Kindle. And I don't even own a kindle!

"Also this week, Fisker found out that its first model, the $96,000 Karma made in Finland, which is two years late in reaching U.S. markets, won't go 50 miles on electricity alone."

Well, at least the really rich can have something to travel around their estates in. I bet they'll even get a tax credit for buying a $96,000 electric Karma.

I feel so much better knowing that my taxes are being well spent.

I guess this is a good place to have a first post here.

I got my Kindle 3rd generation keyboard 3G (special deals version) about 3 weeks ago and was totally in love with it ... was ... until I broke the display simply by putting it (in a padded timbuk2 pouch supposed to keep it safe) into my bag together with my iPad and iPod touch, both in silicone sleeves.

I treated it like any other sensible electronic device, I did NOT drop, throw, sit on, immerse in water, fold, spindle, mutilate, or otherwise mis-treat the bag it was in, but when I took it out of the bag 20 minutes later, the display was shattered, simply from being wedged between the iPad and the iPod touch. Needless to say that I am not enthused, especially as this fragility of the display was mentioned nowhere in the user manual.

Don't know how Amazon will handle it, but the problem is aggravated by the fact that I live in Germany and got it via a friend in the US, so the shipping alone to get it to the US will be upward of 50$ and take at least a month.

Indeed - my mood is considerably better today. Have just talked to an Amazon Kindle rep and he promised to send me a new Kindle to my home address in Germany free of charge. That's what I call great service.

It never matters who's in charge, or where. Once they get in office they start thinking that they're playing with Monopoly money.

I have a 100,000,000 Mark note dated 1923 that is so worthless that they didn't even bother to print anything on the back.

My collection includes beautifully engraved, textured, and watermark notes on down to money so worthless that it wasn't worth the cost of the ink required to print on the back side.

The US now wants to get rid of $1 bills in exchange for $1 coins. They seem to forget that they tried this in 1979 and nobody liked it, they tried again in 1999 and nobody liked it, so true to good political sense, they are now minting millions of them again to be circulated.

They say that there will be a savings of 5 billion dollars after several years, as the coins last longer than the paper/cloth bills. I think they could save 5 billion dollars even faster if they would just stop sending soldiers off to fight other countries battles, and stop letting the politicians raise their own salaries every other month!

Oh great. I guess I'll have to check for American dollar coins amidst the Loonies and Toonies when using the vending machines. Them furrin U.S. of A twenty-five cent pieces that keep a'sneaking into my change done gum up our snack vendors!

The $1 coins were always a bust - they're too heavy to carry around, and all the vending machines would have to be re-fitted to accept the new coins instead of bills.
If I remember arightly, the last attempt produced $1 coins virtually identical in size to the quarter .... sigh.
