I own a PRS300 and it was a gift. It has given me so much trouble and I view it evil presence. It's heavy, the screen after 2 years is rather weak. The software is incredibly slow and confusing. I found calibre and now at least the device software is sort of manageable. With 350 books installed it can take nearly 15 mins to reformat and it looses the age being read and with no goto page facility, hell. What I will say is it's durable. I chucked out of the window onto the drive, with force twice, and it still works. It also fits into my pocket but don't buy it. It has turned me off Sony for ever.

I'm very happy with my 650 and newly purchased (refurbished for $69) 350. Not yet tempted by the T1. But giving up on Sony? Not at all. I don't think they're out of the reader business yet.

But, it didn't bother me too much before when the software was stable. Most of the complaints were wants versus needs. However, the T1 is a big software change so it doesn't bother me too much that there are bugs with the expectation that they should fix them. We'll see...

Does anybody know how to write two copies of a book onto my PRS300 Reader, in different script formats?

This model was my first ereader and I could not wait for it to arrive via mail. It is still my out of house ereader, working like a trooper. Compared to a pearl screen the text is rather grey, true, but it is still a great device. We even gifted our middle daughter with a PRS-300 purchased second hand on eBay. She also loves her ereader, bringing it over once a month for "refills" Being a young and busy mum, she really appreciates how easy it is to read on. Now our son in law wants one.

I tried to get a 650 for some time. But I could not find one. I got a red 650 for my wife after having it on order for 6 months. But I could not get the black one, I had ordered for myself. So I ordered a T1. I got it yesterday.

I would have preferred a 650. Like the op I would have preferred to pay a little extra for a device which is a little more than a plastic thing. But I am not unhappy with it so far. It is the best of the 3 epub devices I have. I will post again, if I get problems with it. |

Switched and gave my 505 away

The 505 was a beautiful reader - the quality was first rate. But I got tired of waiting for Sony to offer the books I wanted to read. I'd watch Kindle and Kobo offer them a year and more, and still not available in the Sony Store. I finally switched, and gave my 505 away.

This may have only been an issue in Canada - not sure if they had copyright problems or what. But it was very frustrating, as Sony didn't appear to be committed to growing their stock. |

You do realise the Sony is not the only store you can buy ebooks from that the Sony can read?

Yes - very true, now that Sony has epub; this was a few years ago. Also, at that time I didn't know how to deal with the DRM issues. Kindle had a great selection, and I finally made the switch. I still find that Amazon has the broadest selection of books, though I do buy from Kobo as well.
