Angry Frustration with Kindle

Hey there. I am on my second Kindle e-reader right now, and I can tell you that I have simply had a boatload of frustration.

My first one froze and had lines in the screen, and couldn't be fixed after a charge and a restart, so I had to send it back and get a new one. This new one I have had only a week, and once again, it has a frozen screen (no lines this time, thankfully.) I tried a soft reset, holding the power button, charging it...

I don't know what to do! Is this going to happen often? If so, I may just try and get my money back, because this is nothing more than a huge hassle! I didn't have either Kindle for very long before they started going wacky on me.

What should I do?

that's very very very highly unusual. i'd suggest calling kindle customer service and trying a third one. but then that's me, like what i would do. good luck, what ever you decide

You have had a nice run of bad luck.

What I would do is to ring them up and explain what happened, and ask nicely if they can do anything special for you.

When does this error occur? Is it during charging, after use, is it connected to your pc?

Can it be reset?

The more detail you provide, the more likely someone here has experienced the same or knows of a solution.

It sounds to me (from the brief description) that your kindle is failing to charge, and is now out of power.

While possible, it's extremely unlike that you've happened to get two duds in a row. It's far more likely that you are doing something wrong that can be corrected, given enough info.

More details, please.

Sounds like you've managed to break both of the screens. Might want to get a sturdy cover for the next one, and be more careful with it.

To clarify, based on the responses that I have gotten, I will give VERY specific details.

I have a sturdy case that I got when I bought the first Kindle, and I have kept both inside it each time. There has been no fall damage, no water damage, no heat or cold damage, no pressure applied to either of them, and I have been using the regular charger.

The first Kindle's battery had died because I had lost the original, so I bought a replacement (still the same brand), and charged it. When it was finished charging, I discovered that the top part of the screen was frozen, with horizontal lines towards the bottom middle, and a little space at the bottom that APPEARED to still be working, but wasn't big enough to tell for sure. I tried holding the power switch for 20 seconds as recommended, and when it didn't work, I called customer service who said they would ship me a new one and I should return the old.

I did so, and charged and began using my new Kindle, which had no problems. Then, out of nowhere (again, nothing was done to it that could have damaged it. It was sitting on my bedside table in the case), after a day or so of not using it at all (it was in screensaver mode), I went to turn it on and the screen would not go away from the screensaver. I tried holding the switch for 20 seconds again, and nothing (the light at the bottom works, but the screen does not). Then, I tried charging it fully and doing it again, still nothing. Finally, I looked up some solutions on the forum, and tried the 'soft reset' of holding shift, alt, and r at the same time. Still nada.

Hopefully that helps, since I have no more information to give you guys.

Is your case a lighted one, from the first batch ? Those were recalled by amazon because they were not functioning properly and draining the kindles battery while on sleep mode.

No, this is not usual. I have had DX for several years, and Kindle 3 for two (?). No hardware issues.
