				Suggestions for collections?

			While impatiently awaiting a PRS+ version for T1 with folder browsing (and recent reads, I wish), I am forced to use collections. But can anyone suggest how to best order some 500 novels, classics, modern, english, french, dutch,fiction, non-fiction, allowing things to be easy to find without having to scroll pages with lists of over 30 titles? Thanks.

			I have collections based on Author and by Series. I use collections based on Genre when I just have a few books (1 - 3) by an Author and/or the Author is not well known to me. And I have limited Genres.

	I KNOW Asimov is SciFi, so he is not in that Genre collection. Within an Author, I actually set up my collections based on a series type (using Calibre) so the Author collection is sorted the way I want it sorted. If there are series, typically they are sorted in groups, so each series is in series order. Otherwise, it is in published order. |

			I never really got the point of collections. All I achieve is not being able to find things because I don't know where I put them. So I have four 'collections':

	1) Books to read 2) Books read 3) Books abandoned (the crappy stuff I will never pick up again) 4) Books currently reading To that, I add two folders for 'professional' stuff - mostly journal articles in PDF 1) Papers currently reading 2) Papers archived But I know it's highly subjective... |

			Why do you keep the abandoned books at all? I delete them permanently and move on.

			I have broken my fiction and non-fiction into subgenres to create smaller collections, e.g. literature, thrillers, romance, business, politics, memoirs, health, etc. I also keep modern and classics in separate collections. For history I have broken it into different countries and events. I have separate collections for different series to keep track of the proper order. I have separate collections for library books and sample books. I have Read collections too. I also have a To Be Read collection where I put books that I know I won't get to for a long while and thus keep the category collections smaller. On my Kindle I use special characters like } to force alphabetical ordering sequence of my collections.

 ![]() I don't see your point. Truly, I do have a collection for abandoned books and, truly, the only books in it are the ones I can't delete. I made that collection after switching to the new software. And I didn't even point it out until asked about why I have such a collection... And, frankly, I don't think not being able to delete books is such a big deal - I have been critical of SONY's software for bugs with annotations and periodicals, but this seems very minor to me. Truly, I am not upset with SONY - this is the second thread today in which someone 'accuses' me of this. But what am I supposed to do? Come up with some excuse? "Oh yea, I have that collection because it reminds me of the books not to purchase again, because they suck". Would that be better? Oh wait. I don't need a collection to remind me of the books I purchased. BECAUSE I CANNOT DELETE THEM!!! ![]() Just kidding... but yea, that's the reason, what can I say... |

			Maybe I don't understand as I've never used the reader software; I keep my books at Calibre. Right now, I'm only using a few tags for a couple of hundred books: fiction, memoir, travel and nonfiction (for everything else).

	Is it that you can't delete any books, or specifically ones purchased from Sony? |

 As I mentioned, I think this is a minor problem - compared to the faulty support for annotations or the inability to import certain (SONY-store purchased) periodicals. But it is an inconvenience. |

			My installed Calibre is a one stop storage site for 6 ereaders used by 4 family members so my collections (tags) are thus;

	Series Genre - sub genre Author So this could be; Lost Fleet Science Fiction - Military Jack Campbell My wife enjoys Paranormal Romances So another tag in Calibre would be Romance - Paranormal, which is converted to a collection on a Sony or her Kindle. Works well for me. |

			I use just this collections:

	-Want to read -Reading -Done with reading -Lexica Problem is 'Calibre'. No, of course not the software itself. When putting books in Calibre I download metadata over the internet. Lots of keywords are added to the book automatically producing lots of collections on the reader. I finally gave up using them extensively and just delete them time over time from the reader. Except above mentioned. A. |

			I think I get it now. Audible does something similar, though not as drastic, with its hard-drive Manager showing a "shadow" listing for anything you ever added, even stuff that's been later deleted off one's computer.
