Ten seconds from initial turn-on to end of first splash screen. Six seconds from there to end of second screen. Two seconds from Library ebook selection to reaching last page read - I'm at about the first 3% of the novel.

No noticeable speed-up in these steps. Yes, I'm working from Cybook memory, not the SD card - and there are only 21 ebooks on my device.

Takes one second to page-flip. Does not do multiple page flips if I hold the navigation control down. (Someone reported this "feature".) Still having an occasional "freeze" where the Cybook doesn't recognize it should flip the page but the LED goes green to indicate it's noticed my pressing of the control.

Don't do PDF or MP3, so I won't bother checking those. Don't read Asian characters so can't really tell if there's any improvement there. All my Mobi ebooks I've created using BD have *small* cover images because of the cover image problem - so I've not yet gotten anything up to test the "fix".

All I can really say is that I *hope* the power consumption has been reduced.

They said "event queueing". Try pressing the next page button 3-5 times in rapid succession... it should turn the equivelent number of pages. (If I am interperting even queueing properly.)

Did the "delete"button turn on the green light before the update?

Tried several times to make it work - both ways - didn't work. And yes, before anyone asks, I checked the "About" dialog and I'm now definitely running Build 685.

No. And I've yet to try and see if it works now. But I have an ebook to remove...

....

Nope. Doesn't turn it on now. And the ebook in question was not deleted from the Library. Yet another function not yet available.

I think I'm unbiased and sensitive when it comes to snappiness of GUIs and my personal opinion is that there is a noticeable speed improvement when turning a page or navigating through menues.

I read a lot of books in english and make heavy use of the translating feature (which takes a lot of "clicks" to translate a word in the center of the page...) and this IS faster with the new firmware.

concerning bootup time, I would say it's the same as before.

When I press the button 10 times it pages 6 times. So it seems that a certain amount of key presses are stored. Navigating in the library screen is also faster because I don't have to wait to press the key again. I think the time between pressing the key to create a new bookmark and CyBook actually inserting the bookmark was also reduced.

Over all I'm really not impressed with this update. Maybe I just had to high an expectation and Bookeen didn't help any with not communicating which features/bug fixes they will include in this first update.

Has anybody information about the an expected date for new library handling features? I think most of us are waiting for this improvement.

Concerning “automatic page turning”, what I get is one more page after I stop “paging” (if I’m doing it faster then the Cybook can turns pages of course).

If I keep my finger on I get two pages turned and then it stops.

About the speed in accessing all functions, it’s definitively faster, sometimes so fast I pass a menu and when I click in the centre button I’m choosing the “next” option on the menu.

One funny thing happened immediate after the upgrade - I made it with a “normal” 256 MByte SD card from Sandisk - the Cybook would see the SD card as protected.
I had taken it out and back in and same thing.
I managed to resolve the problem, protecting the SD card, inserting it, taking it out, unproctecting it and inserting it again, and just then it showed the correct icon and created the folders (ebooks, music, etc) inside the SD card. Spooky!

The rest is playing great and did not loose the position in any book (as I was getting before sometimes) up to now.

Isn't it a good thing to have bugs fixed before new features added so what you have works? I would say yes it is a good thing to fix all the bugs and then work on adding new features.

Upgrade went very smoothly, and there is a noticeable difference in speed of "page turns." I can do the "event queueing" as well but it only seems to work for 3 pages, no matter how many times I hit the button. It's an improvement, certainly, and a big one that affects me every time I use the Cybook. I'd still like better library management, though...

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, I consider the lack of adequate folder/sub-folder navigation from within the Library to be a BUG!!! In fact, I rank it ahead of the bugs already "fixed" and in the same league as that of improper PDF support and inability of the Cybook to handle - properly - multiple-html-file ebooks.

I am glad it responds so much quicker, and I am glad that there were several bug fixes. But I was really looking forward to folders and some other things. Oh well, I guess I will sit back and wait another three months.

With all due respect, Derek, it's a little unreasonable (IMHO) to consider the lack of a feature not in the machine's spec a "bug" merely because you think that it ought to be there. It would be different if a folder view was specified and then not implemented, but that's not the case.

Here's my question: Does this update make the sort of Hack that is available on the Sony more likely? Possible? No change?

I want to completely disable the mp3 button, so it does nothing (or at least so that it does something useful instead of just diverting me from what I wanted to do.)

Yeah, I want the sub-folders, and complete support of mobi features and html would be nice, but I'm working around such things and I really don't carry that many books with me. but every time I hit that #%#$% mp3 button by mistake, I swear at it, and the back button takes me back to the library instead of to the book I was reading. grump.
