Cool Reader on Android

latest release can help you set the book cover as screensaver on nook. just open a book (this will create the folder the first time), go to settings and choose the "currentbook" screensaver and you are done. Each time you load a new book, the cover will appear as screensaver.

I've got the last 3.m0.51-22 release of and I am can't find the setting

It saves it automatically, there is no setting in CR. The setting is in your standard nook settings menu (the place where you choose your screensaver, you should see an extra option called currentbook).

1. Sorry for my poor english.
2. Thank you for building the very best android e-reader ever, by far.
3. The cool reader (just for android, not windows version) seems unable to display some diacritics. áéíóúü are ok, but ÁÉÍÓÚÜ plus Ññ are displayed "?". The same with "guillemets", those special inverted commas like this: « ».

It's a display issue, indeed. If i.e. I search for "Ü", I get the exact "?" (where there should be a "Ü") marked.

Try to change font it looks like the font you are using does not support it.

You are right. It was a "droid font" issue. Replaced, solved. TYVM.

First off, Coolreader is in my opinion the best reader app out there for Android. (I like it even better now that I've finally managed to get it to see a css file and use the font I want, with help from this forum!)

I just have one problem...my apologies if it has been asked before, it's an awfully long thread. I am using Coolreader 3.0.51-7 on an HTC Incredible, running CM7 nightlies, and my tap zones are configured so that a long or short tap anywhere on the right side (in landscape mode) should go forward one page, and anywhere on the left side should go back one page. All page animations are disabled. None of the soft buttons are configured to do page turning, nor is the volume control.

Nevertheless, a tap on the right often pages back a page, and pages are sometimes skipped when it does go forward. Sometimes it takes three or four tries to get it to the page I actually want.

Has anyone else seen this, or does anyone know what is going on? It looks to me like a swipe anywhere on screen will also page forward or back, depending on swipe direction, and there's no way to disable that. But I could swear I'm not swiping when it pages in the opposite direction from what I want, and that wouldn't account for the multiple page turns anyway.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Edited to add: I'm not quite sure yet, but I think updating to 3.0.51-22 may have fixed the problem! For some reason it wasn't appearing in "My Apps" so I wasn't getting the update notification until I did a search for Coolreader in the Market.
Edited again: Nope, not perfect yet, but better. I'd wonder if it was different for different books, but I don't see how it possibly could be.

Most of my books and formats work great with CoolReader. It is my favourite reader by far.

I have just come across a problem with one epub that I downloaded onto my Touch Nook. In CoolReader all the paragraph indents have disappeared and everything is left adjusted. Since there is no additional space between paragraphs this is a problem. When I open the same book in the default Nook Reader or in Mantano or on my PC from Calibre every paragraph is indented.

I tried to read through this forum. I changed the disable and enable internal... prompt. I did have one problem in that I wasn't sure if when I chose Exit from the CoolReader menu it actually closed CoolReader. Since I didn't know how to force it for sure to stop and restart I powered off the Nook and then powered it back on. I figured that had to stop everything! Changing that prompt didn't appear to make a difference.

I read something about CSS files that I didn't really understand. Why would I need to create any CSS file when the book displays just fine with every other reader.

Any suggestions? ................Jackie

Hi! First off, I love this App! Best reader on any device, period. I'm having one problem though: On certain Epub books, multiple sections of text are missing. Where the text is missing, there's blank space. The text shows just fine when opening the book in other readers. If I convert the book to .mobi, it displays just fine.

The books in question are DRM free, and were converted to epub from .prc with calibre. I converted to epub, because Cool Reader could not open the .prc files for some reason.

I'm using the latest version of Cool Reader on a HTC Inspire.

For me, the reading-software benchmark is still Mobipocket. It was absolutely perfect...until Amazon bought them and razed them in order to develop their Kindle.

I have had that happen to me on occasion but what happens more often is when I touch the right side to page turn I get a look up in the dictionary.

My thought on it is that the NC is very sensitive, so sensitive that I have experienced a page turn when my finger is close but a hair away from touching the screen. Most likely what happens is when the page turns back it is because the touch swipes slightly to the left and the dictionary probably because I touch quickly twice even though I don't seem to.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't done enough reading on my NC to know if it happens there (I do most reading on my phone). I too wondered if it was interpreting taps as swipes, but I don't see how that could be possible, considering how careful I am. Producing a swipe deliberately requires a fairly large lateral movement. Doesn't explain the multiple page turns either.

I've also wondered if it could be a result of pressure from the edges of my TPU case when I hold the device in my left hand, but just letting the phone sit in my cupped hand doesn't help.

It doesn't look like the developer is monitoring this thread any more, and there are many unanswered support requests over at Sourceforge. No response to an email either. Seems strange, because the app is still being updated.

P.S. I think I could test your hypothesis by turning on the tap zone outlines and paying attention to whether they appear on the "bad" taps. They shouldn't appear on swipes, should they? It's rather difficult to keep my mind on it if the book is at all interesting though!

Just downloaded cr3_0_51_30 and found that the two page in landscape mode is no longer working properly. It looks like it is displaying as if in single page mode and then putting page two on top. Strange.
