Kobo Touch finish

I got my hands on a Touch at Target recently and the demo model had this weird sort of "micro furry" finish on it that bugged me greatly touching it (yeah I am a bit of a texture weirdo) I thought it was just like the Kobo and Kobo Wifi. Was it just my imagination or is the finish different? I loved the simple matte original finish and found them for me at least to be the perfect finish for electronics visually and to touch.

You're not imagining! I don't like the finish of the Kobo Touch bezel at all. Yes, it's very anti-glare, but I think it's hard to keep clean if you happen to get a mark from a sticky finger or something like that.

Well at least I am not going mental. I thought maybe it was just my perception but it seemed to have a sort of very fine fuzzy texture to it and it felt really "wrong". But again I fully admit I am super sensitive to textures and the feel of things. Shame they changed it since the originals had a superb finish.

I think it's very nice to hold, but, like I said, I don't like how it is to keep clean.

I really like the feel of the Touch and prefer it to the original which has the same back but a more plastic feeling front. I think the Touch's textured finish definitely feels much nicer than hard plastic or metal but obviously everyone is different.
I have a black Touch and have never had any fingerprints or marks on it. I know some people are concerned about keeping it clean but I really don't understand what that is about.
I keep it in a case when I'm not reading and I have clean hands when I use it. Occasionally I clean it with a micro fibre cloth - one of the many spectacle cleaning cloths I have lying around.

I actually prefer the KT's finish (the black one, at least, no idea if the others are the same or not) over the older Kobos.
I also use my Kobo Touch without a cover, carry it with me every day on bus, have lunch at work with it and do not have a problem with it getting dirty. The few finger prints I did manage to get on it were very easily removed with a dry cloth.

Problem is that I DO wash my hand quite a lot. Wash hand often = need hand cream. Often need to reapply hand cream while reading, but not a great idea with a naked Kobo Touch. If I had decided to keep my Kobo Touch (I didn't) I would have skinned it.

Earlier threads suggest that the black Touch have a different texture than the other colours. I have a white one, and the feel is the same on my Kobo WiFi and the Kobo Touch. The backs are different, with larger diamond shapes on the Touch.

Awasi: Ah yes, the dreaded hand cream. Perhaps reading gloves?

I have a black Touch and my wife has the Lavender one (white with a lavender back) and they both feel the exact same to me. I like the material they use, where it is smooth yet still grippy ("grippy"?).

I'm thinking that it's a 'rubberized' plastic. Feels soft and smooth. I have a white/silver one (on sale at Borders in NYC just before they closed up) not my first choice but I figured that I don't actually look at the back very often and anyways no choice for a great price

There is some colour transference from my 'Roots' leather sleeve though. Brown on silver. When it gets too annoying I'm planning on getting a skin to make it new again.

Why clean it at all? Perhaps a well-thumbed Kobo will attain the same reverence as a well-thumbed book.
