It's $174 on Amazon and there's no wait. I'd looked at the Cruz, too, when I saw it in CostCo, but I've read more bad reviews than good on Velocity tablets. Of course, we don't have anything like that for the Fire, but Amazon has good customer support, so I would imagine that they'll be pretty good about replacing a funky device or offering some sort of deal for Fire buyers when they roll a new tablet out. Ha, I don't trust Amazon controlling/monitoring my Internet usage, but I love their customer service!

According to this article, the Kindle Fire uses an infrared touch-screen.

I bought App2SD Pro there and had to email the developer asking when the new version would be available. Two months later I had it but of course there is probably a newer version out. Most of the apps on there are outdated. I think the developers just don't want to jump through hoops and abandon them. This could all change if Amazon changes things plus keep in mind there is still no way to delete an app from your account. My hubby went wild trying out a bunch of junk free apps now I have to scroll forever to find anything I just bought. |

Nook Color for $139! That might be perfect for you, Blossom!
It IS tempting to cancel my tablet order and buy this, then get to rooting it (though knowing my luck, I'll brick it!).

Hmm, that site is hosed, can't see the full information, is it Refurbished? Have to have a login etc.... Seems like a good price, but I'm skeptical.

And even so, I think the Fire offers quite a few advantages over the Nook mostly associated with Amazon content etc.

But really didn't want to go through the trouble of rooting. For what I want it for, I think the Fire will be just fine. That doesn't mean I absolutely happy with everything about it. Wish I didn't have to wait so long for delivery.

yeah i agree with kenny, the Fire has quite a few advantages over the Nook color, one being access to a massive music library, a massive book library, a massive movie and tv show library, and access to more than 100 times as many apps than the nook. im not syaing all the content is good in fact alot of it junk but. the fire device is a lil better than the nook color and with the fire you have acess to the largest media library on the planet.

I thought about it through the morning and decided Nah on the Nook. Before I saw they have poor customer service. Honestly, I just don't want to fiddle with the OS, whether I'm dual booting with an SD card (stability issues) or flashing on the device (risks).
Fire vs. tablet comes down to if you want Amazon integrated into the device or not. For some, it's a huge benefit and others a big turnoff. I'm in the latter category, even though I'm currently waving pompoms for their customer service. But I'm the "don't fence me in" sort of pony. I DO, however, want B&N to come out with their new NC devices, complete with specs and pricing. It feels like everyone's (ok, the big brands) waiting for the other guy to respond to the Fire. Who'll sneeze first and produce an answer or slash their price to meet it? Dropping the Playbook to $299 doesn't count in my mind, nor the A1, since they are giving us mixed signals right now. Christmas is coming up, so we could see a price war, or we could see the opposite effect: No one wants to be the next TouchPad and sell at a loss and produce at a loss to fill back orders, so people might do that sidelong look and nod to each other to hold pretty firm to current prices with a few specials here and there. I wouldn't be surprised. With the latter scenario ... it'll be like the ice cubes at the bottom of your cup. You're tilting it up, they're all hanging in the back (hold it, hold it ...), and then one ice cube releases (someone fire sales just before Christmas), and then they all tumble after.
