DON'T peel off your screen protector just yet
DON'T peel off your screen protector just yet. For those of you contemplating getting one of those after-market thin-film screen protectors, don't bother, because Amazon has sent you a perfect one.
Take a razor blade (or X-Actor, scalpel, etc) and carefully trim all around the bezel, peel off the outside bits, and use a credit card to work out the air bubbles that remain. What you end up with is a screen protector that fits perfectly and is practically invisible. Hint: if you have lots of bubbles to begin with, don't start cutting just yet. Partially peel off half the cover from the top (leaving the bottom half the screen stuck-on) and slowly stick it back using a credit card to avoid bubbles. Do the same for the left side, then bottom, then right until most of your screen is bubble free. Now you can start cutting. I just did it on my new Kindle NT that just arrived and the results came out absolutely perfect. It takes very little skill, just patience and a light steady hand. As always, YMMV. |

I had thought about doing that with my K3/Keyboard model when I got it cause it looked just fine and wasn't very noticeable. But, then I thought about the steps involved. And the idea of taking a razor to my new device (with these hands, anyways) just wasn't something I was prepared to undertake. Maybe if I had a couple other Kindles (not mine, of course) I would give it a try.

Do you really worry so much about the screen that looking through a piece of film when you read is acceptable? To me it would be like trying to read with dirty glasses.
My grandmother had vinyl covers custom made for all the furniture in her living room. 15 years later the furniture looked like new (through the plastic) but everyone who ever sat on that stuff was uncomfortable. When does the screen ever come into contact with anything but the inside of the cover? |

I thought of the same, but then I wasn't willing to let my clumsy hands get near the brand new kindle with a sharp razor. I'd rather take chances on a scratch later on than guarantee one trying to trim the screen protector
![]() Besides, the screen looked whiter without the screen protector, atleast in my case, and so it was an easy choice for me to get rid of the protector. It did take my two week to do so though ![]() |

Why do you want a screen protector? You normally only have to worry about that when you're touching the screen. The Kindle doesn't have a touch screen, and nothing SHOULD touch the screen. Keep it in a decent case and the screen will be fine.

The kindle outer screen is plastic and is not susceptible to scratching. I think it's unnecessary to have any sort of screen protector. You are only reducing the screen clarity and your reading enjoyment.
The screen have a glass substrate that is susceptible to shock and stress damage. You're most likely to damage the kindle screen by dropping it or sitting on it. A thin film will do nothing for that. |

For myself, no big deal, except I don't have a case for mine yet. However, my sons will each be getting one for Christmas - they'll need screen protectors just because they're still young enough to want to touch it no matter what I say: ) They are extra careful with mine 'cause they know they're toast if they mess up moms books : )
It is good to hear the screen is not susceptible to scratches. I know my boys tho - they're getting screen protectors. Last edited by isanythingopen; 10-17-2011 at 11:19 AM. Reason: additional info |

While subjective, I don't notice any reduction in screen clarity - transmissivity seems to be near 100%. The only downside is that it's a bit more "shiny" than the matte screen underneath. |
