I just want to point out that Amazon's web page states that this new 3.3 software update is for Kindle Keyboard models currently using version 3.1 or earlier.

I just noticed the 3.3 announcement on the Kindleworld blog. I think 3.2.1, which only came with new Kindles since the special offers version was released, already had the same features as the now publicly released 3.3.
I just got a replacement Kindle this week which has 3.2.1. and I noticed the syncing of personal documents worked (I'd continued to read a non-Kindle book on my phone after my Kindle broke and I tried the 'sync to furthest page read' on the replacement Kindle and it worked. Haven't tested the personal docs archive thing yet but like Dreamwriter says, the 3.3 update is only for 3.1 or lower according to the Amazon page, so not for 3.2.1, and I've had wifi on today but no update has happened. Seems to me that would only make sense if the features are already in 3.2.1., which is what the newer Kindle owners already have, and the 3.3 release is just for those who were still on an earlier version. |

On another note, now we will need Personal Documents sync for all Kindle apps as well... |

Anyone with Kindle Keyboard WiFi SO (aka firmware 3.2.1) manually updates to 3.3 ?
Mine has jailbreak, screensaver and USBnetworking hack installed, should I uninstall all of them first, before applying 3.3 update? |

PD archiving is working pretty well, but I hope they make it so that notes/highlights are available on kindle.amazon.com permanently (or until you delete it from your PD library). They do show up in Recent Activity (attributed only to 'a personal document') but once they go away from there there's no way to access them, save perhaps My Clippings or doing a screen shot.
I'm planning to use this for books I get elsewhere (Feedbooks, Gutenberg, O'Reilly etc.) so it would just be nice to have a convenient way to access any notes/highlights that I make. |

I wouldn't try to install 3.3 over 3.2.1 because the amazon page states that it's only meant for 3.1 or lower, it's in the steps for the manual update.

Oh, and the keyboard shortcut to toggle Voice Menus (shift-spacebar) is a nice touch, it was too hard to find it in Settings (though at one point I had worked out the necessary sequence of button clicks in trying it out).
It probably means the Kindle Touch will not have the equivalent of Voice Menus, though it does have TTS. So they are making sure they have at least one model that has basic accessibility features. |

If it was not meant for 3.2.1 to update, then it wouldn't work. |

It definitely installed on my FW 3.2.1 K3 Wifi SO.
Hey, do you guys know how to get a personal document uploaded to your Amazon library (the cloud) other than email the document to your Kindle? All of my personal documents that I emailed to my Kindles have made it except one. I keep getting a notice that delivery failed. It is 11MB so that might be an issue with my SMTP server (GoDaddy). All the other personal documents have been less than 5MB. The support site says they can be up to 50MB, so size should not be a factor in this case unless my SMTP server is trashing the file. I did read on the support site that we can choose to download personal documents to our computer and then load them to the Kindle via USB connection. But I can't do that if I can't figure out how to get it to the Amazon cloud for my personal documents. Thanks EDIT: Never mind, I zipped the MOBI file and emailed it again. This time it went through okay. The zipped file was still about 10MB. I wonder if my SMTP server just hiccupped? It has been known to do that. Last edited by jswinden; 10-14-2011 at 06:38 PM. |

The Personal Document feature is really cool. One of the things I had been hoping for was the ability to archive as well as sync (farthest page read and highlights and notes) in files other than books directly purchased and downloaded from Amazon. Most of my recent books were purchased and downloaded from Amazon. However, occasionally I buy a Topaz book which I then deDRM and convert to mobi so that the text reflows like a normal mobi book. This makes it a heck of a lot easier on my eyes. In the past that would have caused the book to not be syncable because it was modified. I also have tons of books I purchased from other stores and in other formats This allows me to archive and sync them too!

That is what I think to. My email has and is a bit flaky on occasion, as is my Outlook 2007 program. It might still be good to learn if we can turn a book into a Personal Document through a means other than emailing. Of course I guess another alternative would be to use my GMail account instead of the one at GoDaddy.

Besides the Personal Docs, has anyone noticed any other changes with the new firmware? I was looking for the change log but haven't found it yet.
Thanks for any info ![]() Andrew -------------------------------------------- http://aproudlove.squarespace.com |

Guys, I had 3.2.1 on my Kindle. Upgraded manually to 3.3 but existing personal document (one book only) still didn't show up among archived items. Deleted that book from the cloud, send another book to name@free.kindle.com. Received this book on my Kindle, deleted it (Kindle said "remove from device") (with WiFi on). Removed item immediately "jumped" into Archived Items folder.
