Hmm... I am 100% sure that at some point that they were under the periodicals section. Could it been because I tried the sony library software at some point? I don't mind the books categorization, but each day, a new version, they do add up.

Maybe that is it! Either I don't know (or notice) the full extent of the UI and used the previous version of the beta driver?

I guess I can always use collections (tag) to get to the periodicals individually.

Whatever is easiest, even leave it alone is fine, part of this is my own learning curve on Calibre, ebooks and of course, the spanking new T1.

(BTW, I am playing with the black one, the red one is coming in tomorrow for the wife.)

Was able to test on OS X, and first had some errors relating to db in calibre, but formatted internal memory for a clean slate and working great now.

Tested syncing books/collections based on series and works as expected, very nice work. There is one minor bug wanted to point out. It looks like the plugin configuration screen is not displaying all the text, but other Sony driver shows it all. Attaching screenshots of both:

PRS-T1 config (missing collections config text)

Sony config (shows full collections config text)

I'm not using the plugboards and don't have a need for the feature at the moment -- but wanted to mention something to you guys if it is time related.

I noticed there is a timezone configuration on the device itself, perhaps it is not set correctly for those having the problem?

Settings..Date & Time Settings...Time Zone

The display issue is likely happening elsewhere in Calibre. I've seen it once, but it worked correctly later. Odd.

The timezone stuff was an actual bug, but it should be pretty much fixed at this point.

I've got another patch to clean up behavior of the author field to be consistent with other devices and Calibre, but have the option to get the Sony behavior as well. The periodical detection doesn't work in the latest version of the driver, but that will likely be addressed next week unless there's a demand for it any sooner.

I've also been playing around with changing the Sony behavior by editing the SQLite DB. I've got one hack working that I've posted up in the Sony Dev forum (not Calibre related) for those adventurous enough. I managed to turn the "Recently Added" list into a "Recently Added or Opened" list.

I am happy to report that for whatever reason, my 11 news items went into periodicals now.... (No idea how it worked...)

EDIT: I downloaded and ran 0.8.22 for calibre..

There seem to be some things that will trigger rescans of existing books. That likely caused it.

Unfortunately, the T1 seems to have a couple inconsistencies that trigger it. A Sony firmware bug.

I believe it. I tried in vain trying to get the 32GB Micro SD to work WELL (with mp3s), but it is almost impossible with the un-deterministic scans that happens asynchronously (It is just a number, but 32GB is really too large to re-scan constantly. T1 came to a halt!)

So, I am falling back to a 1GB from the old days and thinking of buying only the 2GB for the wife. (So far it is my biggest compliant about T1. but the 1GB worked beautifully!) So renaming all songs to a single album name helped me circumvent the lack of a playlist...

The display, weight, format, are all excellent. The wife actually prefers the Black, but oh well, too bad. I have the red and black and compare it with the Kindle button ones in Best Buy and although they have the same Pearl v220 display, I really think Sony's display is visibly sharper!

Very happy with the 2 that I got and really appreciate the driver work Kolenka and team have done that makes it so much better.

Need to play with the red one more, but so far, no reset/crash/freeze yet on either. (Cross my fingers.)

This only started happening with the 8.22 version, and fairly consistently. It never did it before in the betas, it was very fast. Now it is scanning from 2-5 minutes upon loading 1 or 2 books. 311 books total with a 4GB SD card, 1.29 GB of 1.41 GB internal free, 3.76 GB of 3.83 GB free SD card. And the T1 is really sluggish during the scan, whereas before it was hardly noticeable. Please take another look at this. Thanks!

To be clear. My T1 is not sluggish at all, with a 1GB instead of a 32GB Micro SD. 8.21 or 8.22. (32 times increase is A LOT to scan, as I have more than 22GB of mp3s, and all sluggishness results from that.)

I thought Kolenka was referring to periodicals versus books on news sources and that is triggered sporadically based on Sony Firmware bug/feature with the scanning. (It is now going to the periodicals section, which is the desired result/outcome.)

So as long as I am happy not putting in a 32GB micro sd, everything is fine. And everything is fine...

Sorry azxswq that I was not clear. The T1 is not sluggish in regular use, just when it is scanning after a disconnect. On the betas you could see that it was scanning but could operate the unit normally. I also included the specs of my memory used to show that not much is used, and if there is more memory usage it could be drastically worse.

On the beta versions of Calibre I added 80-90 books with less than a 15 second scan, if that.

Right, I think I understand your original point, but since I don't have that many books and the scans have been fine, I really can't speak to your experience and issues.

However, as I explore Calibre's myriad of features, I am wondering if anybody else were able to use the T1's browser to log in and download a epub with the Http server built-in by Calibre? My downloads have failed on both SD and Internal Memory on all books. But under the same http set up initialized by Calibre, using Stanza and my Iphone 4, the downloads worked flawlessly.

So I am wondering if I am missing a step..?!? [Not critical of course.] I plan to open up my port externally so that when I am travelling, I can easily download my own books (and news) on demand. (32GB being a fleeting fantasy at this point, trying to maximize access.)

Just wondering if something in this code is causing the slow down since it was not in a beta that I tried?

Follow-up to the 'disappearing plugboard' scenario...

This happened to me today when I sent a couple of new books to the T1. I managed to get the plugboard setting back again by doing the following:
  • Full device shutdown of T1. Switch it on again.
  • Connect T1 to Calibre and let Calibre do its stuff.
  • Disconnect from Calibre. All plugboards present and correct. No deleting or resending of books was required.

Whether this will always work remains to be seen. Maybe I was just lucky.

It can't since I haven't submitted the patch yet. It is only on my machine.

The driver should be using local time when adding books, like the T1 does. If it is triggering a rescan, something else is happening with timestamps. All you can really do is send me the before/after copies of the DB again.

I've seen a bug where it sometimes reads the timestamp as UTC and sometimes as local time. That behavior is very confusing.
