My little brother didn't need the "where babies come from talk". He announced to us all at the dinner table that he'd figured it out. He told us he had looked in the encyclopedia and through the National Geographics, and knew that babies come out of their mothers, from a spot somewhere up between their shoulders.

i love the scene (from Blue in the Face) where Lou Reed explains that he had a very traumatic childhood, so he's blocked all his early memories. he can't remember anything before the age of... 30.

Most mothers of under-fives in the UK have one (or anyway, most in urban areas).
One of my earliest memories is of dropping an egg onto the floor, then claiming that I thought you boiled them to make them soft (--well, it works for potatoes). I must have been under five, because it was our apartment in Glasgow and we moved to Wales shortly afterwards. I'm still not sure whether this was a faulty empirical generalisation, or whether I was lying to try and avoid the consequences of breaking something (my parents were prone to unpredictable rages). |

I learned to juggle very young. I think I was about 7 when one of my brothers came into the kitchen to find me crying. I was juggling eggs, and had been for a very long time, because, as I sobbed to him, I couldn't "figure out how to stop!!".

The back-story is that we'd had several accidents with bringing in the groceries, broken eggs and dropped milk cartons, etc. so I was petrified of breaking the eggs. After laughing at me cruelly for a few minutes, my brother just reached out and grabbed one so I could catch the other two. Crisis averted.

Well, I'm frightened, to be honest. I'm not a willing participant. The squirrels have infiltrated my avatar and demanded that I play 'Stairway to Heaven' non-stop or unspeakable things will happen to my towel.

What about using the towel to catch one or two of those little buggers? One is supposed to wrap a towel around a scared cat, to catch it and take it to the vet. Then again - squirrels are verrrry cunning.
How about you JUGGLE the squirrels? That ought to get them off balance. ![]() |

These are from my niece, who is 4 now.
About a year ago, she & her grandmother were in the bathroom, getting ready for some event. I walked into the room, just time to hear my niece ask her grandmother what she was putting on her face. Her grandmother told her that it was a cream against wrinkles. My niece thought this was very strange, so she asked why her grandmother had wrinkles. Grandma said, “because I’m old.” My niece: “Why are you old?” A few weeks ago, I was sitting next to her, in the backseat of a car. Something caught her attention, and she suddenly shouted out, “look, that dog’s doing ballet!” I turned to look out the window, just in time to see a large dog (a boxer) with one of its hind legs held up proudly. It was peeing against a lamppost. |
