It is hot and horrible mainly 43°C and max humidity. A big storm the other night! Too early, but at least it put out the giant fire that was racing towards us (we would have been OK because it had to jump the airstrip to get us - but a station nearby was right in the path. But to top off that long difficult day I finally went to the bathroom (some bloke had left the seat up on the loo) put the seat down and the biggest giantest huntsman spider ran away. I was too tired to see where it went as it was 10.30pm by now - so I peed in the shower! I was having a shower at the time. Is that bad?

Cloudy and mild until about 4:15 when I was startled at my work desk by a crack of thunder. I looked out to see a torrential downpour. It didn't last long though.

I'd say it's preferable to the sink...

And my hat's off to anyone who will remain in the same room with a man-eating spider known to be lurking about, much less be able to relax enough to pee!

The rain is pouring down today, laughing at the farmers who haven't cut their rice yet. And it's supposed to continue through the night and all day tomorrow!

That's good. A couple of years ago the fire was out of control in the catchment and jumped Lake Burragorang and threatened the towns just west of us. The only way in was by helicopter. They took off from outside our house and were doing runs every five minutes for about a week. Hundreds of firefighters were airlifted in and out.

Growing up in the bush down under leaves you immune or paranoid to/of spiders They are everywhere. We leave 'em be. We have the big huntsman which are harmless and common black house spiders.

I don't normally worry about huntsman spiders; and only the other day I was espousing their benefits a la eating insects etc. I was just too tired to be worrying about it crawling on my bum!

Lake Burragorang looks so pretty! Is that where you live?

It's 20 minutes west and up considerably by car. That photo is from the lookout. That's Sydney's drinking water you're looking at. The lake was created when the Warraganba Dam was built that flooded the Burragorang Valley. I'll dig up another one from the drought a couple of years ago to show you why Sydney was starting to panic.
If you google it, look south east to Picton. I live in those green hills under the Razorback Range.
