I was just checking the Pocketbook forum, and the developers are working on a 2.1 version of their firmware; that doesn't mean that it's going to be Android 2.1. What happens to those who purchased Mantano while it still worked on Android 2.0, but stayed on 2.0 while Mantano upgraded to 2.1? Is there a reason for not maintaining backwards compatibility?

Sigh! Amazon seems to run about a week to a week and a half behind Android Market.

That's a concern. Mantano is the only app I've purchased on Amazon due to the Market not allowing it to be installed on my rooted NOOKcolor at one time. My DPI setting was off by one number so certain apps were no longer available to the device in the new Market. I was hoping to avoid this nonsense in the future by just getting my apps via Amazon.

Example is when the appstore went down for the "Fire" announcement I was logged out of the appstore and could not use any Amazon apps as a result. I had to wait about a day for them to resolve the problem before I was re-logged on to their store. Even the frebee apps did not work. Because Amazon validates every app delays are to be expected. =X= |

My point really was pick your poison. I'd rather Google's method over Amazon. I don't care for a DRM system that has to validate everytime you launch an app. In Google's case you have to do something to break your app, as in upgrade/install. For Amazon they'll disable the app regardless of user action. |

"Any app that has Amazon DRM applied to it will require users to have installed and signed-in to the Amazon Appstore client to access the app. When an app is accessed by the user, it will verify with the Amazon Appstore device service as to whether the user has an entitlement to the app. If the user does not sign in or does not have an entitlement to that app, then the app will not be usable. However, any user can gain an entitlement by purchasing the app through Amazon." What is not stated above is how they do it. Amazon uses an offline tolken key to decrypt the DRM. For the most part things run smooth until you are logged out, as I was, or the tolken key is corrupted. =X= |

You have to be logged into Amazon App store to use any apps on your account. The cookie on the app stores does expire because my husband threw a fit when he went to bed and couldn't play Angry birds one night on his phone due to not being logged in. Me being the sweet wife I am, I had to get out of bed go downstairs find the password and log in on his phone. The next week the same happen to me. I couldn't use Mantano till I got out of bed went to find the password and log in on my phone. So if you are traveling make sure you have that log in info with you!
I turn 3G off sometimes to save battery and can still use Mantano. So it must check for a logged in cookie locally on your phone. Maybe it has to be renewed each day or within a certain time period to validate...I'm not sure. ![]() |
