I was having the same problems. It kept crashing on me as I was trying to organize things. I have no idea why or what happened but it seems to have stopped now. +++ fingers crossed. Good luck!

2. Cover - how is it attached to the reader? Does it come with any kind of sleeve?
3. Can you charge the device with an USB cable that is not attached to a computer? This does not work for the 505, the other end of the USB must be a computer to charge it.
4. Is the normal (non-usb) charger the same as for the 350 / 505?
5. How is the web browsing experience - I mostly read articles on the web, is the reader suitable for this, or is it a pain to use?

Thank you.
A few photos:

2. Cover - snaps on. Not like previous covers that you had two tabs holding it. This one is like a plastic shell that snaps around it.

3. I am using the charger from a blackberry.
4. Nope. See 3.

Thanks for all the replies!

In the end I will probably go for the Kindle Touch, because the T1 does not do anything better and the Kindle is cheaper and I can get from the US without customs. EU prices are just a joke, way above the US prices for all readers.

**********************************

And no, the 505 cannot be charged with a USB not attached to a computer. This has been confirmed on these forums, and I can also confirm this, because there 2 505s in the family.

I use what I believe was a psp charger I picked up for $5 and it charges from my power strip. I've been doing that for three years on my 505. Either I'm misunderstanding you or you have been under a misunderstanding for years. The 505 does not require a computer to charge.

The charger has two ends, one with the small USB and the other with a round end. The opposite end of the charger is a regular USB but it hooks into a ac adapter type thing (sorry im no good with the terms here) I use the same charger, just different ends for when I charge to my power strip and when I transfer books from my PC.

Hey Wachuko,

How easy is it to get the Reader in and out of the new cover? Is it flimsy or does it hold up well?

Thanks!

What do you mean?

I never ever charge my 505 via a computer.
I charge it only via power adapter, the one that came with 500. There is no computer nearby to the charger. When I travel I also use this adapter with additional adapters, depending on where I travel. I normally don't have any computers with me when I travel.

Maybe I misunderstood you?

P.S.

None of Sony Readers, starting with 500 (505,700,300/600,350/650) required a computer to charge them. Computer is merely an alternative way to charge Sony Readers.

Sorry for the detour but people just keep going too close to the edge.

BlackVoid is not disputing that a Sony PSP power adapter can be used to charge the 505. He is simply trying to correct what has been said in this thread in regards to charging the 300/505 via a USB type connector. Simply put, unlike the the x50 series (350, 650 or 950) the vast majority of chargers with USB connectors will not charge the 300/505/600 ereaders. In order to guarantee that your 300/505/600 will charge via a USB type connector that USB connector has to be attached to a computer and the computer has to be active (IE not asleep).

I understand why you are confused, you bought a 500 that came with a power adapter. The power adapter was not included with the 300/505/600 models. No one is disputing that the power adapter that came with the 500 or a PSP power adapter with the barrel connector can be used to charge the 300/505/600.

That statement isn't 100% true. Neither the 300, 505, 600, nor 700 shipped with a power adapter included. These models only came with a USB cable. Thus unless you bought the optional power adpter the USB cable connected to a computer was their designed method for recharging. Many folks tried the various USB chargers out there with their 300/505/600 devices only to find out that these chargers, many more times than not, would not charge their ereader.

This was a Public Service Announcement, please RESUME your regularly scheduled T-1 programming.

Only because the power adapter was not included in the kit, didn't remove the capability of the reader to be charged by power adapter. 505 was one of the easiest because standard PSP charger could do it. Don't know about 300/600/700.

People trying different adapters and failing to find the right one doesn't mean there is something odd/wrong with the device. It is user error. There is something wrong with people who don't understand what they do on the other hand they don't want to spend money. So, they try cheap options when they lack the necessary knowledge, which is stupid. You either know what you do, and make an informed decision on why this particular no-name adapter will or will not work or you pay more and get the right thing. When you experiment with no understanding of the process you must take responsibility for the consequences.
People are funny creatures.

I'm nOt sure why you think this. OP asked te same question in another thread and like I said maybe I am misunderstanding him but eAch time he seemed to be saying the 505 cannot e charged unless it is connected to the computer. His response to me also implied that. Again, I may be misunderstandig him but I wasn't rude and neither was anyone else, no need to come in and say his thread is going close to the edge, whatever that means. I was under the impression he wrongly thinks the 505 requires a computer to charge, and attempted several times to disabuse him of that notion, nothing more.
