Exclamation Ebook reader bookmarks doesn't work

Reading mobi, epub formats reader in calibre doesn't remember the place in which I finished and even if I saved a bookmark, it gets changed to another place (a little over half a book or some other place). I just started the book, I never got to the chapter it says I stopped/bookmarked.

Before it always opened in place I stopped, now I cannot find the place even if I bookmarked it. Update didn't help. Please help, this is my favorite ebook reader on PC (have other but they suck in usability).

Thanks for all the help.

Update: just did some testing. The problem is with mobi files, epub works

Convert to ePub and read that. This behaviour may be because the reader converts to ePub internally, anyway, and saves the last page read inside the ePub. As far as I know (and/or suspect), that converted copy gets thrown away after you close the reader, so I don't think bookmarks would transfer to the MOBI file.

Thanks for the info.
Not the best solution, but at least something. Hope mobi will be supported as well as epub later on. At least converting is easier than from pdf (no titles, authors in every page)

When I view a mobi from cailbre it is opened in the Kindle for PC app when I view a ePub it is viewed in calibre's viewer.

Install the Kindle for PC application and setup mobi files to open in the K4PC app and it will bookmark your position in the mobi the same as calibre's viewer does for ePub books.

Well, I have the same problem. I have a Sony PRS 300 and the bookmark doesn´t work. It works when I go to another book and then come back to it, but when I shut down the device, the bookmark completely disappears. I have to look for the book and the page that I´ve been reading. All the files are pdf files (if this is important to mention). I have had it for a year an this is the first time that it has a problem. Can you help me, please?
Thanks a lot

Is there a space in the filename of the book that the bookmark does not work?
Known ADE (EPUB and PDF) used by my PEz and Sony. only Save to Disk replaces spaces with a underscore

Thanks for your quick reply. I must tell you that the bookmark is working properly. I don´t know what happened. I opened the device today and the bookmark was there. I marked other pages of books, shut it down and open it again twice and they were there. Sorry to bother you but I had had this problem for several days. Let´s see what happens next! Anyway, thanks for your politeness.

Well, lately it doesn't work with epub too. Neither bookmarks nor the place I stopped reading in calibre ebook reader.
I have no idea how to read epubs after a pause. Looks like I'll have to write down the place I stopped just like with pdfs

Are you using the Set bookmark button before exiting?
Are you, then using the little arrow next to the button to retrieve the bookmark? (works EPUB 8.23 on XP)
Note bookmarks may not work (reliably/at all) across different reading devices/programs. Everyone seems to do it their own way

I noticed a problem with returning to the last read point of an epub in the last week. When I reopen the epub, it scrolls to a point a page or two after where I was up to. The exact amount past the last reading point changes with either the size of the epub file or how far through the book I am. For one book the viewer shows 368 pages and I was at page 150 but it reopened to 152. Another has 776 pages and I was at page 635.8. Reopening takes it to page 637.8.

This is on V0.8.23. I think it was happening on the previous version. If I remember, I'll check another computer tonight that should still have 0.8.21.

I just finished checking the other machine, and it isn't a version problem. The laptop with the problem has a high resolution screen. I had increased the font size in the viewer to make it easier to read. A little experimenting showed that if the font size was the standard one, the bookmark worked OK. Larger fonts opened to a page after my current spot and smaller fonts went to an spot earlier in the book.

Font sizes can cause variance in the exact bookmark position. That's a limitation of how the bookmarks work (they stored as a fractional position, and the exact position the fraction points to can change with font size, the amount it changes depends on the structure of the book).
