i send an email to amazon.
They answered me that it has been declared as lost more than 6 month ago.
that the owner received coupon (bon de reductions in French) and that he buy a new kindle to replace his lost one.

That getting it back is not necessary since they won't do anything with it (not getting it back to the first owner).

And for the police station, they told me to contact amazon.

Did Amazon say that the owner said that getting it back was not necessary? What was the actual text of the communication?

This is what happened to me in New York. When I left my K3 on the train (intercity Amtrak), I immediately contacted the station lost and found. I also logged in to my account and changed the Kindle's name to my email address and sent a document giving information on how to contact me or how to return it to Amazon. I left the account registered until I saw that the document had been delivered, then deregistered the account and asked Amazon to blacklist it. (No coupon was offered and I clearly stated I wanted it back). There was no way anyone who found it could have mistakenly assumed it was free for the taking.

Never heard anything from Amazon or the Train station. After two months, I bought a new K3, but am still irked that some dishonest person didn't do the right thing.

I think I'm up to my limit on Kindle licences. I have three pcs of mine and my husband's Kindle and laptop all on my account.

There's no limit on the number of Kindles you can have registered to a single account, as far as I'm aware. The only limit is how many devices you can simultaneously download a specific book onto - normally 6.

I can't seem to find the "number of devices" in the amazon store any more. Can you find it on any of the books? I wonder if they have dropped this limit recently. I also find no mention in the Kindle terms of server about this limit where I can find those terms on other web sites that have quoted it.

It's normally specified on the actual book. The number can be set by the publisher, but the default for a book with DRM is 6 concurrent devices. If the book has no DRM, the device limit is shown as "unlimited".

Right, it used to be in the little product details info block. But I don't see it on any of the books I have looked at recently.

This happened to me this week when I bought a used one on Ebay for a gift....Not sure if the seller will make it good or not. Just want people to beware that not all Kindles are transferable.

Scammed too

I just called Amazon because I came across a deal too good to be true on a Kindle!! And it was. They told me to take it to a certified recycle center or the local Police Station! HA All that hold time for nothing. I would've rather been out the money, send it back to Amazon and at least have them make me THINK they returned it to the rightful owner. Now, I'll never get back the 45 minutes of hold time. Well...I tried to do the right thing!

OK, so how do I correctly sell my Kindle 3 Keyboard, now that I have my Fire?

Simply de-register it on my amazon page, send it to the buyer, then wait for the buyer to register it in his name and he (or she) is good to go?

Once it is correctly registered to the new buyer, s/he knows that all is fine with it?
I want to properly sell it, not give it away for 10$ because everybody is afraid they might get a stolen device....

Best regards,
Andy

I would only buy a used Kindle from a good friend or a fmaily member because it is not difficult to report a Kindle as lost or stolen and have it blacklisted. The original owner only needs to call Amazon, tell them when the Kindle was purchased (it does not need to be an exact date but a general time frame), what the Kindle was called, how they paid for it, have the credit card number they used, and give an approximate time that the Kindle disappeared and Amazon will blacklist it.

I know this because I discovered my Mom's Kindle was missing about two months after she lost it at the airport. I checked my Kindle Account on Amazon and noticed my Mom's Kindle was not registered. I called her to ask if she had opened her own account and she told me she lost it coming home from visiting us. I called Amazon and they bricked her Kindle.

The long and the short, the original owner can brick the Kindle pretty easily. I don't know if there is a length of time where Amazon will say "It has been too long"

This means that I will only buy a Kindle through Amazon or a B&M store that Amazon sells through.

You can do something like this...

Give the person the serial number and they can register it on their account to verify it isn't black listed. Just an idea.

Local sales are the best. You can hand it to them, then can register it to their account, if it works they can pay you.
