another story, not really funny, but my eyes nearly fell out of my head when it happened (i was a eye-witness (ear-witness ?) so you can trust its authenticity). a different friend of mine was playing pétanque in the courtyard with her 4 year-old son. at the end of the game, she said "i won !" her son, being of a rather competitive nature, as 4 year olds often are, was furious and yelled, "no no ! you didn't win ! it was EX AEQUO !!!"

that's right, in latin.

later at dinner he also correctly used (and pronounced) the word "cucurbitacée."

You've reminded me of another "acquaintance" story, though I did "ear witness" this one myself.

A friend of mine has a daughter who at the time was about 18 months old, just starting to talk, not even complete sentences yet. We'd both been part of a theatrical performance that included Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" for several months. Anyway, we were walking through the mall, pushing the child along in the stroller, and she was babbling to herself, as 18 month olds are wont to do. When suddenly she came out with it, clear and loud enough for us to hear her in the noisy mall.

I snapped my head around to look at him just as he snapped his head to look at me, and I demanded in an incredulous voice, "Did she just say: 'For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth?'!"

He replied, just a bit shocked, "Yes. Yes, she did just say: 'For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth'!"

She was mostly on key, too. Okay, so she slurred "omnipotent" a little, but still!

Heh, I couldn't understand for the longest time what the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance had to do with witches, or why the witches had booths. (" ... to the republic for which it stands ....")

My daughter struggled to learn to ride a bike. She's tough and persistent and very self-willed. She Would Do This Herself. I came home one day to hear her proud declaration, "I rode my bike today, and I'm not even bleeding."

I was at McDonald's the other day and a Dad with his 3 sons were in line in front of me. I guessed their ages at 8, 6, and 4 years old. The father says to the 8 year old "What do you want Son? The Son replies "I would like a %!@$% Big Mac". Shocked with the swearing the dad proceeds to give him a spanking right in line. Then he says to the 6 year old "What do you want son". The boy exclaims "I too want a %!@$% Big Mac". Again another spanking. Finally he asks the 4 year old what he wants. The boy looks at his two older brothers crying and says "I sure as #@(]<! don't want a %!@$% Big Mac."

If you are truly 18 you are but a child yourself. I know you don't believe that now, but come see me in 20 years and we'll see if you don't agree.

And yes, most teens hate children... because they are so similar to themselves.

I can only post at the moment the anoying things I did as a kid-like runing of and talking to random Austrian's .Well, and my father reportedly called himself "Mirek Kartašová",as a kid.The thing is-males here are called, like "Kartaš" and women have a "ová" extension at the end. That's all I can think of for now, though hearing small kids talk while on the tram sometimes raises my tension to the highest pitch at times.

bob:no,actualy, physicaly I look like I'm thirty.Ive been shaving since 12/13 years old and ive got hairs on places that don't even exist.Ive never considered myself a "teen",because I don't act like them-I don't follow trends, styles,I don't drink, smoke, don't follow need or want women (but that does not mean what just popped into your head),I'm fully satisfied with spending my time with reading, writing and sleeping.

I took my daughter to Stonehenge, when she was seven. She asked, 'What's it going to be when it's finished?'

What an insightful question, Patricia. It should, frankly, stop all Stonehenge scholars dead in their tracks. Can I ask how you answered?

You live too far east.

Before under God was added to the pledge a kid was heard to say:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic with which it stands one naked individual ...

Actually, I was nonplussed and just said, 'But you told me that you had done Stonehenge in school!' in a hurt tone of voice. Then I did all the lining up with the rising sun at solstices stuff until she begged me to stop.

I went back there a couple of weeks ago. The visitor centre is still non-existent and they charge £6.50 for a walk around the stones. A lot of people preferred to look at them from the road.
Avebury is better. It's free and you are allowed to walk through and touch the stones. And the local shops sell a much better range of new-age tat.

I was lucky enough to get over there in 1976, when you could still walk up and touch Stonehenge too. Those stones are much more impressive in size, when you are standing right beside them! But yes, Avebury is wonderful. I'm an anglophile -- have made 4 trips to England (& Scotland and Ireland) and none to "the continent". Yet.
