^Ummm...I think you have a problem. I can help though.

I want you to disconnect your credit card from all your on-line bookstore accounts and then go and get the scissors. Okay, now cut the card into no fewer than 487 pieces saying as you cut, "I'm a naughty little mouse".

26 days since last book purchase, 42 days since last e-book purchase.

Well, as long as they were a good price on sale and you truly wanted them and you're keeping up with your TBR list, it's probably not that much of a lapse.

Myself, I've probably bought about 120+ totally new never-read-before in print-or-e full-length e-books* since around this time last year, and my mega-list of read 100 books in 2011 books says I've finished at least 51† of them since the start of this year.

Always look on the bright side of life and console yourself with the fact that your impulse e-book purchases may cost money you could have spent on booze and porn, and perhaps even taunt you with an unread status in your Calibre library, but at least they don't take up extra shelf space in your house.

* Anthologies, short-story collections, and magazines DO NOT COUNT.

† It'd probably be more if I didn't also insist on getting in paper books, library books, graphic novels, freebies, and of course, having to read textbooks.

I'm actually doing really well. I have bought an ebook or two, but these were restricted to books that I was (and did) read pretty much straight away.

Other than that, I've been consuming previously acquired books or filling my library with freebies that have come up.

Thanks for the various kind and thoughtful words. Two of the books were books in a series I'm following, and the third was by an author I really like, and was in the bundle. I'm not counting the other four books in the bundle that I already owned. I could have just bought the one book, I suppose, for $6, instead of the the three for $15, but I would eventually want the other two, so....

And now you know (if you didn't before) why I started this thread. On the positive side, I've read over 160 books and discarded (as uninteresting or already read) another 30 or so books from my TBR list, so I'm currently running at 201 ebooks added and 192 removed from my TBR list this year. If I can restrain myself over the next three months, I should end the year with fewer books on my TBR list than I started the year with.

I anticipate less of a problem next year. What's really blown my ebook buying this year and last year have been massive sales at Fictionwise. And I think now there's just not a lot left at Fictionwise that I want to buy, even if they do have another really good sale!

i think what fuels a lot of the "addiction" is that if you just got an ereader somewhat recently you kinda start trying to play catch-up. i think thats whats going on in my situation. i have a pretty stocked wish list but the rate i add stuff is steadily decreasing.

Isn't the cutting part a bit overkill? He might need it for other things. But I do agree that disabling the credit card is a good idea.

I love this thread. I'm not one of you guys, because I'm too poor to be that way, but this thread is really fun to read. The only ebook I have bought recently is Mile 81, which I read not long after. I do however have two on pre-order that I must have, and they are expensive. Plus, after I finish A Feast For Crows, I must have A Dance With Dragons, and that's another $15 doozy.

I used to go crazy with buying paper books to a point where my library was overflowing with books, and then I moved in with my fiance, who is a teacher... she had about three times more books, notes, binders and other paper material... We're still in the process of trying to find room for a new library to fit everything. But needless to say, that really stopped my book buying spree. Until I got an e-reader.

With books no longer taking up space, it's back! A few days over a month and I've got about 20 new books. Managed to finish 5, but I really need to stop looking at the stores as I've already got 15 more books I bought, plus another 50-60 free ones to finish...

^I've been removing the free ones (that are publicly available) from my device except for ones that I think I'll read in the next few months. It's really making me feel psychologically lighter.

The 50-60 free ones that I have are after I cleaned it up. I actually do want to read all of them. There are a lot of classics I wanted to read but could never bring myself to pay ~$20 or more for a paperbook of a writer long gone, and where the only cost to the publisher was the physical book itself.

I added 20 dollars worth of books to my carts at Smashwords, Allromance and Carina Press yesterday. But I was strong. I didn't hit checkout. . Also, I took a look on my 30+ books library wishlist, and decided that next month I'll read them all.

Congratulations!

I too have resisted temptation recently. The entire 33-book "Dumarest" series by E C Tubb recently appeared on Amazon. And I haven't bought them! I've only added them to my wish list. Perhaps I'll buy them at the end of next year, if my TBR list has actually reduced significantly. Or perhaps... I might even be able to just buy them one by one!

But not at the moment! I'll remain firm! It's been just over a week since I last bought an ebook!
