BTW, regarding freehand annotations.

First of all, most Android tablets' touchscreens are not accurate enough for handwriting.

Second, there's no standardized way to store freehand/vector annotations in EPUB.

Therefore, as much as I would like to highlight or jot down something while reading, the infrastructure is just not there.

Still, I think Mantano can do something about PDF. For instance, to enable highlighter for PDF even the text is stored in graphical formats.

And make the annotation tool easier to use.

Cheers.

Hi Arthur,

It looks like with the new fix from Google/Marketplace I now have it on my Nook Color (although I tried all the fixes before, evidently I was doing something wrong ) - it is version 1.2.4 - hopefully it will allow me to update when a new version comes out. So, I appreciate your answer, but am happy I'll finally get to enjoy Mantano!

Lyn

I work for Mantano's customer support. Of course, if you can't use the app at all on your device you'll get a refund, like we just did for Synergi. Could you give me the number of the ticket that you posted ? Or if not, please contact us on the helpdesk for the refund.

@loyukfai

I'm not that concerned with freehand notes with ePubs. And since you point out the lack of infrastructure for such work in ePubs, it's a good thing I'm not I only use freehand when doing 'red ink' markups for corrections, which are almost exclusively PDFs. Highlighting and text notes are sufficient for my other annotations.

However, when I need to draw a line on a graph, or write out a equation, or other things that are better conveyed with some sort of drawing, I use freehand, even if the accuracy isn't the best with the touchscreen.

The freehand isn't a deal breaker for me. The document is usually a throw-away, to be replaced by a corrected version. I don't need to use Mantano's organization options to manage those documents, and just sticking them in a folder works fine. It just would be nice to use one PDF app instead of two

Regards,
Peake

The German translation has some errors. Please change the following text:

From: "Berühren Sie den Bildschirm um mich zu überspringen" in "Berühren Sie den Bildschirm zum Überspringen"

From: "Eröffnung des Buches" in "Öffnen des Buches"

From: "Das Buch wird aufgeladen" in "Das Buch wird geladen"

From: "Bildschirm immer auf" in "Bildschirm immer ein"

From: "Halten den Bildschirm auf beim Lesen" in "Hintergundbeleuchtung immer an beim Lesen"

From: "Bildschirmfüllende Lesen" in "Bildschirmfüllendes Lesen"

From: "Vereinfachte Inhaltsverzeichnis" in "Vereinfachtes Inhaltsverzeichnis"

Thank You!

On behalf of the Mantano Team, thank you very much for these valuable corrections, we take good note of this and it will be changed for the next release.

Best regards

I finally picked up the trial, and tried it first with a PDF, and it was unusable:
  1. No reflow, making text in many PDFs too small to read in portrait (short of panning back and forth).
Reflow was just befuddling. I was expecting pinch-zoom to play a part in the process.
  2. No page down, making landscape reading cumbersome.
Not a big deal to me if I can have reflow in portrait.
  3. No night mode, making night time reading painful.
I'm informed by CS it's already in beta.

With those additions, primarily 1 and 3, I would find it superior to ezPDF. The epub interface seemed more complete on quick inspection, but the appeal for me is having a single, capable reader for both epub and pdf (and just having a capable reader for pdf). No feature set for epub alone could make me migrate from more-than-adequate Aldiko to a $5-10 (I've seen it vary) alternative.

I would still like to be able to toggle book vs. web page formatting (paragraph indents and spacing) in reflowed PDFs, but as-is it's better than ezPDF for my purposes. Barring unforeseen obstacles, I'll be purchasing.

Can I download books from my calibre server right into mantano? Downloading first and then opening from my sd card doesn't work somehow (the filenames are messed up, and they're called .bin, -1.bin, -2.bin, etc...)

Hello ,

Does anyone know how to change the speed of the reader? I really need the reader to go a little slower.

Thanks

It's long been rumoured that PayPal will become a payment method on Android Market but, it still remains a rumour through.

Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile supports operator billing as well.

Or you may try the Amazon store.

Cheers.

I'd really like it if 'library' DRM were supported. As it is I need to use Aldiko, Bluefire, or Overdrive Media Console. None of them support TTS or many of the other great features of Mantano.

If you mean Adobe DRM by "library DRM" then it is included. Just go to settings from Mantano's home screen and enter your digital editions username and password.

My wishlist is down to this:
  1. Standard book formatting in reflowed PDFs.
  2. A last-read widget (possibly as an add-on, so that the main app can still move to SD), maybe 2x2 with a cover image and progress bar, which will open your last read book. You could maybe offer a 4x1 widget with the last 3 or 4 read, too. I think you'll find it a big draw for tablet users.

Hello Mobile Read,

I have this special request to do:
The Mantano Reader doesn’t support officially the Nook Touch, but as it turns out that many Nook Touch users like to read with our application we would like to help them and we have implemented in the current Beta version the support of the Nook Touch keys, in addition to the possibility of disabling animations. Any help for the beta testing of these features is welcome. You can contact me in private message if you are interested in participating.
Thanks in advance !

Cheers.
