You can now buy Kindles at Dick Smith, Big W and Woolworths/Safeway though so they are getting a lot of exposure that way. Now that Borders has closed I wonder where the Kobo will sell from ?

LOL! Yes, they are to be blamed for a lot... like me wanting an Iphone. I held out a looong time but I'm going to cave soon. I love touch screen for a phone, but just not an ereader, don't want the fingerprints on my reading screen.

Borders orders will now be handled via B&N, at least here in the US. So, I wonder what that means for those outside of the US.

I think Kobo just need to update (refresh) their Kobo Wifi to an E Ink Pearl screen and they'd have a pretty similar device considering it is already at the US$99 price point.

A local publishing house bought the online assets. The BnM assets went bye, bye (as far as I'm aware).

I do like my iPhone.

I have a Kobo Touch and it has a matt screen. I don't see any finger prints. Maybe if you ate pizza while reading?

Since you’re in VIC, you might have a Collins near you for some hands on (once they have them) if that is a concern. I like the look of the SONY T1 too, though I think the glossy bezel is likely more of a fingerprint concern.

I do wish Kindle (4/2011) had kept the colour of the Kindle 3, I still think it looks much nicer.

Very true. I want a Pearl screen so that's why I wouldn't buy the Kobo non touch.

Agreed on the colour. I live out in country Vic so not sure how close a Colins would be but I could have a look. I am curious about the Kobos. Want a hands on look with a Kindle too but will have to settle for hands on with a Kindle 3 even though I'd buy the 4 from Amazon's site. Wouldn't be much difference anyway.

I don't think you'd be unhappy with the Kindle, just worth a look at the options if you have time/get a chance. Philosphically I'm not a fan of their (Amazon's) format choice, but then I'm not a fan of the DRM on these ebooks period which they all have, though to be fair the Adobe DRM does give you device and some estore choice which is nice.

Can't say I'd upgrade from a Kindle (3) Keyboard unless you love the new form factor or really can't stand the page refresh on every turn (taking into acount no 3G unless you wait for the Touch which is more of a change in interface/input).
That's only the Non Touch, the Touch has everything the K3 has but the buttons. Buttons are obsolete these days just look at all the tablets replacing netbooks. It has a faster processor and is smaller and thinner then the K3 and is running new firmware. There is a setting to change page refresh to however you like it. The Touch also has a few software features that the K3 doesn't have like the Xray feature.

The Kindle forum has a thread where someone took the K4 NT apart already so if you interested see that for more hardware. info.

Sorry thought you were talking about the Kindle (4/2011).

Yes the Touch is arguably better hardware (better processor at least, and software upgrades you mention). Don't know if I agree about buttons being obsolete (even if I do use a touch based eReader). More a preference thing.
