You are differentiating 'theoretical for end user' operating system from 'practical for end user' operating system for no reason.

So are you claiming that Amazon has a monopoly on ebook Readers, or on eBooks themselves? There are multiple competitors on both sides so I don't have a clue how you think they are a monopoly.

Good definition.

It will probably be ignored though.

That's absolutely not relevant to what is being discussed.

Amazon saying "we're not going to sell to these people" does not mean they have a monopoly.

If anything it demonstrates that they clearly don't.

Installing an add on that REMOVES your ability to do something does not give you more freedom!

It's very clear that they don't have a monopoly.

AFAIK they don't even have any arrangements with publishers where they are the sole distributors of certain books.

That means that you are perfectly entitled to:

a) Buy a Kindle device but purchase books for it elsewhere

b) Buy a different device and purchase books from it elsewhere

Except:

Anyone can sell books in .mobi (which is the same as azw). It might be a proprietary format, but it's not like they are making it illegal to use it for commercial purposes (or require a license, as far as I know).

Anyone can put books on their kindle by simply hooking up a cord to their computer

"its"

Get a dictionary and look up "monopoly." Then request that the thread be deleted so as to hide the idiocy of its first post.

Look under "can be confused": http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/its

A always liked their explanation. Short story: when in doubt, just ask yourself "can I replace it by 'it is' ?" If yes, then it's "it's", otherwise it's "its".
