My personal view on it so far: I'm envying the quick independent way it can download from the library.

Shiney front of Casing: would have personally liked the back side matte finish to be on the front also. Fingerprints do show up easily. However, once she gets it into a protective cover that should help.

Since I'm a PRS300 user, this touch screen stuff is new to me. I finally figured out how to highlight a word to bring up the dictionary. Do I find it a useful feature? Maybe easier to just flip to the dictionary itself on device and type in the word or look it up in regular dictionary, but for those used to this feature probably is second nature to them?

Thanks very much for the pics and info! It seems like a souped-up 650 to me, with nice improvements, but nothing I'd replace my perfectly good, full priced 650 over. I understand one can sync items in one's Calibre library via Wifi, which would be a big plus for me.

Easier? I disagree completely.

Regarding changing fonts and italic text:

Do we now have 'proper' italic fonts rather than that terrible standard-font-slanted-a-bit hack on all previous models?

A pic would be great - serif if possible.

The T1 can download DRM-free stuff from any website (there was a video with Feedbooks in another thread). I wouldn't be surprised if you could download Kobo purchases as well once it was authorized. But you should be able to setup Calibre's web interface and browse to it from the T1 to download anything from your library.

Jackie: 8 font sizes, 7 font styles. I don't see serif. I included photo of font styles in the initial group of photos. The Palatino nova & Really No 2 options may come close? Will test those two as actual text examples then post photos later tonight.

Thanks beespeckled.

I'm a little disappointed that they don't allow tap to turn pages, this is what you do most on an e-reader, they should make it the easiest action.

By serif, Jackie just means a serif-style font. Amasis is a serif font, for example. It's the one where the bases of most of the letters are flattened to form a sort of 'line' that the eye can follow. Sans-serif fonts don't have this, like the font used for text in my post.

@beespeckled,

As Kolenka kindly said -- a serif-style font.
Any (or all ) of Amasis, Palatino nova, Really No2 would fit the bill.

To save you having to look for suitable text, page 3 (headed 'EPUB Serif Font') of this test epub would do nicely. It contains regular, bold, italic and bolditalic text all on one page. Or at least it does on a PRS650.

A few questions about library lending - does the reader have to be registered with ADE for library books?

And purchases from the Sony store don't need to go through ADE? But a purchase from, say, Kobo or Fictionwise would?

Dieterpops, you got the reader and a case at Target - was the case T1 specific? Very pricey? And was the reader $149.99 ?

While I'm asking questions, Beespecked - how does the screen compare to the PRS 300? My husband has that one and it's the sharpest ereader screen I've ever seen.

TIA and sorry for all the questions

Thanks so much for the info and photos. That's really convenient that you can check out library books right from the device.

The T1 is $149.99 at Target. Just saw them there. No display though, just two in the glass case.

The case is the Sony non-lighted case...$34.99 at Target. You do need to have the reader registered with an Adobe account to get the wireless library to work. Once registered, it's very easy to check out books. I've been impressed with the reader thusfar...I've had my gripes with Sony readers in the past but so far, so good. Now if they could just offer the Economist subscription, I'd be set.
