When people talk about the "good old days" they forget that medicine in the good old days (pre penicillin) was almost useless.

When I was a child I used to have regular middle ear infections. This morning the doctor confirmed I have an infection of the outer ear/ear canal. It wasn't too bad according to my new doctor, just irritated, slightly swollen but hardly any gunk. I got drops I have to put in my ear 3 times a day and tonight I've got the feeling they are finally starting to work. My ear still feels as if it's stuffed with cotton wool but the pain is mostly gone. Hopefully by Saturday I can hear better because I have to work.

My sister and I had planned a trip to The Hague tomorrow but we postponed it, which is a shame because the weather's great at the moment.

Now I'm off to bed with a good book and a cup of tea hoping I'll sleep more than 3 hours and that I won't have weird dreams like the one I had last night.

I love my critters, I really do... but golly-gosh, my shoes!? I haven't been out of the room at all, just slipped my sandals off a little while ago... someone puked in my shoe. my sandal even. it doesn't even look like anything any of the fur kids have been eating lately.

I woke up after midnight and put my feet down on the floor.
Well, I woke up after midnight, put my feet down on the floor.
It's dark, I can't see nothin,' stepped right out that bedroom door.

I'm walkin' to the bathroom, got no slippers on my feet.
I'm walkin' to the bathroom, got no slippers on my feet.
So I'm walkin' kinda careful, not sure what I'm gonna meet.

So I put my left foot down, felt a funny somethin' there.
Put my left foot down, yeah, felt a funny something there.
Oh yeah, that cold cat vomit, there it was right on my stair.

When I get up after midnight, now I'm gonna wear my shoes.
When I get up after midnight, sure I'm gonna wear my shoes.
You step in puke at midnight, you get those Cold Cat Vomit Blues.

We've got two cats in the yard and a big black dog on guard.

There are times when I'd liker to send us all back to the industrial revolution. I've lost a file. I know it's name, when it was created and lots of words that are in the file yet these Fn Windows search engine can't find it. I can find files form 25 years ago and files I haven't written yet but not the one I want.

The Facebook changes are driving me crazy!

I'm not really a user of it for being social, but to follow all sorts of deals - like the Kindle deal of the day, or sales on Steam (a PC game download store that often has massive discounts, like 80-90% as daily deals) and so forth.

But now, thanks to the "improved" news feed, it only shows selected posts that Facebook decided is news (including none of the posts by Steam). So now I have to click each store to see all their posts, rather than having them all simply listed in the news feed.

And also, rather than my homepage being the news feed, Facebook has apparently decided I don't have enough friends, so it shows me a bunch of people I might know (though I don't, and it's been showing me the same bunch for as long as I've been a member. Hello! I still don't know them, so just quit it already.)

This happened to me just the other night! I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and just as I was about to slip my foot into my shoe I sensed something wet. Yep, shoe full of cat puke.

I had a cat which, when peeved with me, would hook my shower cap down onto the floor and fill it with pee. i'd wander out in the morning, all drowsy, turn on the shower, and reach through the steam for my shower cap. Ever tried to get the smell of stale cat pee out of your hair, in a hurry, before work?

We used to have a cat who had a thing for bras. If you weren't careful where you put them she would, during the night, drag it to the livingroom.

Nikita thought she owned all carpets. My mother bought one for the livingroom but after a week we rolled it up again because Kita didn't want to share and would attack anything and anyone who dared to stand on the carpet.

My Kitty Girl thinks rolled socks make the bestest cat toys. I've taken to leaving them in the laudry basket instead of the drawer just so she has something to play with.

Aha! One of the (numerous) gas chappies we got in to quote says that we can be in spec with an alteration to the flue. AND he got the old boiler working again. (Although, of course, he left it off when he left - proper gas fitters can't leave technically out-of-spec appliances running.) But I could turn it back on now it's functioning properly again.

Much happier to not be spending over £2k that I though I was going to have to spend.
