Yes it took me 8 years to get through Wizard and Glass. I tried several times but always got bogged down. I ended up listening to it as an audiobook.

I think I was annoyed at getting a book length back story so late in the game.

The back story was what I enjoyed the most.
I would have loved whichever book that came in.

Afternoon all:

I enjoyed revisiting some Charles Dickens (A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations) and some Larry McMurty (Comanche Moon and Lonesome Dove).

I like to visit the Old West with McMurtry's characters and I get lost in the lush places and character relationships of Dickens' stories.

I often find rereading more satisfying than the original read.

I usually only reread books in a series. I do so to prepare for the newest book(s), especially if there has been along period between. I have found, however, that after about two years, rereading a book is almost like new to me.

Welcome, hope you enjoy MR, be warned, it's addictive. I rarely reread books except for a very few old favourites. Once upon a time I always finished a book, but now I don't bother, too many good ones out there and my time's getting shorter

Reading The Sixth Man by David Baldacci. Looks like I will be getting the rest of the series... First Family, Simple Genius, Hour Game, and Split Second.

i'm re-reading the 13 dresden files (jim butcher claims to have more than another 13 [maybe as many as 20] that he's not yet written) novels and all the short stories in the correct order amongst the novels. i'm on dead beat (#7) right now and am re-enjoying them all a lot.

I agree that book 2 is very good. I would recommend it to fans of Octavia Butler or Lois McMaster Bujold (Curse of Chalion, rather than Vorkosigan series).

Finished The Cloud Roads by Martha Wells. Oooooh, the book's description was much better than the book. Very nice world but plot a bit stale. She created a unique world and inhabitants but then negated it by employing certain devices. Predictable from page 1. Writing was good, though. Overall, C- (3 stars)

Next another sci-fi classic: The City and the Stars by Arthur C Clarke. Originally published in 1956 but elements previously written in 1937.

Well said, the best books are those you can always dive back into and find something you didn't get the first or second or third or ... time around. "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Great Expectations" are perfect examples of that.
