I found a cover for the K4 at Amazon, and it is in stock:
Marware-Eco-Vue-Kindle-Touch-Cover It is a bit pricey at $34.99 but that is less than Amazon's cover, and the Amazon cover won't be available until November 15. The one caveat is this cover will also fit the K4 Touch so it will be a tad big on the K4 NT. Oh, and for those of you asking about the K4 SO option: This morning I had a $5 off on $10 Amazon purchase offer waiting for me on my K4. I took the offer and saved $5 when I purchased this cover. I estimate I've saved enough $$$ through special offers I've received via the K3 since I bought it 3 months ago to easily pay for the K4 I just bought. It is definitely worth putting up with a few subtle ads to get the savings on items I would have purchased anyway. ![]() Last edited by jswinden; 09-30-2011 at 12:33 PM. |

I've been watching some YouTube videos of reviews on the new Kindle. It's actually pretty funny cause most of these guys are reviewing right out of the box without having even tried it first. One guy had a difficult time turning it on cause he thought he had to "slide to power on" like the old version where it's actually just a button press now. After that he had to enter his password and had no idea how to bring up the keyboard.

WOW.. I am blown away by the K4.
Here is my quick take (even though you didn't ask for it!) I wasn't sure about the new style and color. IMHO, The pictures made it look like the sony PRS300. In person i find it fantastic. The images and pictures do not do it justice. You should really hold it in your hands before you pass judgment on the color or case design. Its got a very subtle 'kindle' on the top bezel and a not-to-advertisementy 'Amazon' on the back. It has a very nice feel in the hands. The back has a nice 'rubbery' feel to it that the front bezel and sides don't. Its not as rubbery as some of the newer blackberry's... but it has a very 'soft' feeling in the hand. It's almost too small... but a case will make easier to hold (IMHO again). The page buttons have a very nice feel to them. They don't click but they are not 'soft'. Amazon nailed the 'tactile' feel i wanted. (I hated the button click on the K2). The menu buttons are small but still easy to get to. The screen is different then the K3. Even my 11 year old non-techie daughter noticed how different it was then her 4 month old K3. It 'seems' to have better contrast and a brighter (less grey) screen. HOWEVER! It does have a thin black bezel/inlay around the screen (you can see it in this picture). Adding a black boarder to the screen can give the appearance of better contrast. My daughter swears its better then her K3, I think its better then her K3 (and WAY better then my K2). The speed increase over the K3 is noticeable. As for the keyboard... I found it very easy to type in my wifi password. Thats probably the last time i'll use it ![]() The only fault i can find, and its really not a fault, is that it might be tooo thin and light ![]() Overall its an amazing upgrade (just ask my daughter.. according to her, the K3 is sooooo outdated). It will be interesting to hear what people think of the touch... Last edited by TheLost; 09-30-2011 at 01:11 PM. |

It does seem to make for a better reading experience, and I'm sure Amazon did it for that very reason. Very cool effect. |

Just FYI, since I initially ordered the Touch 3G to be able to check email anywhere: there is no free web browsing on the Touch 3G, except for Wikipedia and to shop at Amazon. There's a separate thread with an email from Amazon confirming it.

Sorry, tried this but got a message saying the popup was blocked. I guess that means it won't work. BTW, GMail in the Kindle browser sucks! You would think Google would have designed the web page for a mobile device, but no!

Games???
It's for reading! r-e-a-d-i-n-g
Buy an iPad for games. The two complement each other perfectly. Last edited by detayls; 09-30-2011 at 01:54 PM. |

Edit: I found a thread on kindleboards. I didn't see it on my first read-through, but the Kindle Touch 3G page does say this: WebKit-Based Browser Kindle Touch 3G's experimental web browser is based on WebKit. It's easy to find the information you're looking for right from your Kindle Touch 3G. Experimental web browsing is available via Wi-Fi. Here's the thread on kindleboards: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.ph...c,85857.0.html Edited once more to add this from the product page: A single charge lasts up to two months with wireless off based upon a half-hour of daily reading time. Keep wireless always on and it lasts for up to 3 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store, downloading content, and web browsing (browsing available only in Wi-Fi mode). I disagree, at least in my personal experience. I've had a K3 since launch and it is just as "crisp" in contrast as it was out of the box. In fact, I just recently purchased another K3 and my original has a slight edge on contrast over the new one.
