And there are other times when I'm done reading where I'll play several chapters of an audiobook through the KSO because it's the only source near me for external speakers. That said, my Clip+ gets more use than my KSO. But there are times when the KSO is handier for my audio needs.

Hi, I just wanted to clarify about the battery life. It says a month with half hour reading time for new non touch kindle. So you can read for about 15 hours only? What's like 1-4 books only (depends on how long). I thought battery life is amazing for these devices and even if it's double for the other models it sums up to 30 hours or so. I know it isn't accurate or anything but from that is written it doesn't look very good. It makes it a bad device for travel (if the above is correct), if I don't bring my computer, my kindle is useless (or I have to buy the charger). And it looks strange that the battery life is calculated with half an hour reading time every day. How often do you read a book for only half an hour? I read it in 1-2 days. I could get it if it were an hour a day or something like that, but why on earth half an hour? How many books do you think you can read with one charge? How long does it charge via usb? I plan to buy it but want to find out everything before so as no disappointments. |

All I can tell you for sure is that it is extremely unlikely you would have to worry about running out of charge, even if you read all day. MLH p.s. I don't mean this as a "I read faster than you" thing. The truth is that I enjoy rereading good books because I miss stuff the first time through.

I get my Kindle non-touch today and will test. But I am willing to bet it will go at least a week with WiFi On and being used a few hours each day.

My K3 was 80% drained yesterday in one day, but it was a worse case scenario. You would have to be trying to drain it to get there. I was driving for over six hours and I like to have my kindle read to me in long trips, so here is what happened: - text to speech was running for five or six hours - i accidentally left wifi on. - The newer software allows TTS with the screen turned off to save page turns and battery life. However, I didn't turn it off so it was turning pages the entire time. - for the last hour, (seventh hour) I read without TTS, but the light in the cover was on and wifi was still on. You would really need to go all out (lights, wifi, tts, page turns) to run this thing out of juice and it still would take many hours. |

I'm a user who is going to hold off on these new Kindles as I'm perfectly happy with my K3 (and I am already bad enough at spending money on techy stuff), but I do think that the lack of a charger isn't the end of the world. Given the cost of the Kindles vs. other readers, etc. the cost of a USB charger isn't horrible. Heck, you don't even need to buy the one specifically for a Kindle. It just has to be a USB port that plugs into a wall. I've seen them on Amazon for less than $5 at times. Given that more and more devices these days are chargeable via USB, I actually don't mind purchasing the type of chargers that have multiple USB ports as I can charge a phone, Kindle, MP3 player all at once as long as I have that device's USB cable. I find it more troubling that many devices, especially MP3 players and phones, find it necessary to make proprietary connections on their actual devices. It would be nice if everyone would just use a standard Mini or Micro USB cable. But I'm digressing. -Erik |

Keyboardless Kindle has 890mAh battery - half the capacity of K3. I assume KT will have same battery as K3 or larger. |
