Funny, but this blog also missed one of the big benefits of the Silk browser. Namely, since they push the heavy lifting to the Amazon servers it will also decrease the battery drain that web surfing typically has on mobile devices.

People did (and do) care, it's just the mainstream doesn't understand half this stuff (people don't even understand cookies, or the amount of data that leaks through side channels), nor did Opera have the brand share that Amazon does. I personally find it creepy and wonder at what real performance increase it will have in a world where a lot of content comes from CDN's. My local Amazon data centre is in Singapore not my home country for example, not to mention that Amazon is a US company bound by US law.

Yes it is nice you can turn it off, but frankly I think it should be op't in with nice clear language for what explicitly is being logged, but fat chance of any profit making business being that transparent.

I'm also still curious how it will handle SSL.

When it comes to privacy, the difference between Mark Zuckerburg and Jeff Bezos is that Bezos has the courtesy to grease the shaft first. Yet if I speak with my children (in their early 30s), they see no problem with the lack of privacy.

Yes, exactly Amazon is a business, they are not my friend (see other thread

) and definitely with the recent moves they have given with one hand and taken with the other.

Sounds worth a grumble, but as Diap says, it sounds fairly close to what you've all been suffering anyway ......

It has been heralded as the first real challenge to the Apple iPad's stranglehold on the tablet computer market. But only hours after its launch and more than two months before it appears in shops, privacy concerns have surfaced about the Kindle Fire.

Fears expressed about Amazon's new tablet range will leave the world's largest online retailer with a "headache", business analysts said yesterday. They centre on the new internet browser, designed especially for the Kindle Fire, which was launched on Wednesday.

Writing on the Naked Security blog, Senior Security Advisor at Sophos Chester Wisniewski, said that the new browser, Silk, relies on Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) network to bear the majority of the burden of retrieving web pages and pre-render pictures to save battery life and increase the speed of mobile browsing.

"Fears expressed" Never ceases to amaze me what people will be afraid of nowadays. Probably explains all those heart attacks from adrenalin increases while thinking about the latest product Amazon or Apple (insert your favorite evil corporation here) has released.

A lot of websites ar already run by amazon servers. This will help to speed up the web pages. They have a good video of it on their YouTube page.
