Anyone want to weigh in on whether to spend the extra $30 to avoid "Special Offers"? I have a 3g/WiFi K3 with no special offers and love it, but don't want to pop for $189 for a K4 touch unless the ads are truly more intrusive than Amazon says they are. I might even forego 3G since I have WiFi N at home and there is always Starbucks and Barnes and Noble (as long as they don't mug me or carry me out on a rail for having a Kindle!).
If I took special offers and if I forego 3g I can get this to $100. That's an $89 saving and a great price! Thanks! |

I'm interested on the one with buttons too, but to be honest, not sure if I will be able to tolerate typing via 5 way button only.
I like that they reduced the weight, but the physical keyboard is not a real issue to me. |

Hi,
Is the browser experience any better on the K4 compared to the previous model? I would assume so, given what i have read here so far about the significantly faster processor speed. |

Since one of the first things I want to do is get ssh and scp going on it, and I do not know whether that would break the special offers feature, I went with the non special offers version. |

I rarely used it on the K3. I would expect the lack of physical keyboard would be a bottleneck on the K4. I'll try it and let you know.

Mine's coming Friday!! I'm glad I ordered it- really, at $79, you can't go wrong. It'll show up while I'm at work- so I'll have to get through a whole eight hour shift before I canplay with it. Drat!!

Much quicker at scrolling around to web page. Lack of physical keyboard is a bottleneck though.

What I meant is there are some sites like Gmail, Dropbox Mobile, Amazon Library page that doesn't work because the links open in a new window. I was wondering if they fixed it finally so you can download your library books straight from your Kindle.

I got mine this morning and I'm in love. Can't really compare it to anything else as it's my first e-reader, though.
If anyone is looking for a case to tide them over until official cases are released, you should be able to hack a case built for a Sony PRS300 size e-reader. I picked up a $10 case at Walmart today, pulled out a plastic spine on the inside, attached 4 pieces of velcro to the case and back of the kindle, and boom, workable case. So far my sister has accidentally spilled something on the case and my cat's tried to sit on it 3 times, and it's holding up fine. ....I'll turn the thread back over to the more experienced users now ![]() |
