I wonder if the quality of the K4 e-ink display has any advantages over the current K3 displays. All i know is that page turns are faster than on K3.

Finally made up my mind...didn't really *need* a new Kindle as my K1 still works fine, but the hype made me anxious to upgrade. I've ordered the KKSO/WiFi aka Kindle Keyboard Special Offers WiFi version. And as a Prime member, Amazon says I'll get it via Saturday delivery, so we'll see. As soon as it arrives I'll take advantage of one of the special offers for 40% off a case. So that will save money right away! Plus I have 2 colleagues at work interested in giving me a few bucks for my K1.

I think we're all ignoring the most important question in the discussion about the new kindles.
What are the new screensavers like? ![]() Is Emily Dickinson still there? What about Charlotte Bronte? She was a babe, IMO. |

Even with all these models, Amazon still hasn't got my ideal device (ideal with currently shipping technology, anyway).
I like physical buttons for next/previous page. Touch is great for selecting things on the screen. Using it for simple next/previous is a terrible idea. I like the low-end Kindle. I like the Kindle Touch. But what I want is the Kindle Touch with the low-end Kindle's next/previous page buttons! |

According to this site: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/09...from-the-nook/
visually the case is not as ugly as I thought, though I'm still not crazy about it. I haven't done the math, but it seems outside the USA, because of the lack of an ad version, the Kindle will be comparable in price to the Sony T1. But no buttons is a massive mistake. I wonder how the price compares to the Nook? The Nook has buttons and is Android... Outside the USA, the Sony is looking nicer. Again, buttons, and it is also probably Android. What were Amazon thinking not including basic buttons on the touch? They clearly don't read or listen to the users on the Amazon section of these boards. Sure, it'll sell because it's Amazon and it has the Amazon store, but it's fallen behind the competition hardware-wise. |

we're talking about battery life. if you want to put the tablet in sleep/stand by then go ahead. but then the reader has to be put in sleep/standby as well.
but the concern was that at 15 hours of reading time there isnt really much advantage in the eink display over the rival lcd device that can go 12 hours. to test that you need to test two devices in a simliar state with similar batteries. if you want to test them in stand by, fine. by if you just test them "on" and wait til the end of the day you will get your answer much quicker than putting them in standby. the reality is that an ink display device will last twice as long or more with half the battery of the lcd device because just sitting there "on the eink display is using no power while the lcd display- even the best most eifficient non-bistable lcd- is constantly refreshing and drawing power. its like saying car A with a 5 gallon tank doesnt get any better gas mileage than car B with a 10 gallon tank because they can both go 300 miles on a tank. comparing how far they each go on a tank without knowing how much each tank holds is not actually comparing the efficiency .
