Yeah, the card slot is probably a deal breaker for me. I do hope this pushes the price of the Nook Color 2 down to 200 bucks as well (and that they leave it easy to hack/jailbreak--which I kinda doubt).

No matter what, this makes it more likely Lenovo will release the 8 GB 200 dollar tablet (and should push some more into this space)

OK, you are right. Didn't realize that the 79 US$ is for the version with commercials, as we don't have these versions (and we don't have most of the other models either). In that case the markup is acceptable.

Odd they aren't letting Endgadet or This Is My Next actually have hands on with the Fire.

It's the same CPU as the Blackberry Playbook - a Texas Instruments 1GHz OMAP 4430.

In fact it looks as if the entire tablet is pretty much a clone of the Playbook, as far as its hardware goes.

We don't know what processor it has, just that it is dual-core and 1Ghz and there is no word on the amount of RAM. It also has half the storage space and kacks the camera, a volume control, the micro hdmi and usb ports.

We do - it's the same processor as the PlayBook. TI 1GB dual-core OMAP 4430. (at least according to EnGadget.)

Gosh, I just missed it. There is a button model too, for $109, and it is 5.98 oz only!

Yeah, but that's the point, isn't it? This thing is a Front End for the Amazon Store.

You are right about it being awkward, but I'm betting that movies can be sideloaded, and hoping that there will be a Dropbox app.

I ordered one. It's going to be my portable iPad, y'know, the one Steve doesn't think anyone needs.

As an interesting aside, I ordered the Fire and the Touch SO at the same time. The Fire is scheduled to ship on November 17, but the SO is not scheduled till November 23. Make of it what you will...
