Sigh. I haven't read any King since the end of The Dark Tower. I had read The Gunslinger when it was serialized in F&SF - so I spent 28 YEARS waiting for the end of that story. The first four books were very good, the last three were s***. The last one was SO bad I haven't had any desire to read him since. I could, and did, forgive the occasional clunker (and we know there have been quite a few), but for some reason I haven't been able to forgive him for The Dark Tower. And, yes, all King books cross themselves with other King books. I used to have great fun picking out the connections. Once upon a time. |

I just read Full Dark, No Stars a few weeks ago, and it contained some of his best stories ever. I've believe he does short fiction better than full length novels.

I also enjoyed Duma Key, but it's not on par with his older classics. Odd, I don't remember any vampires in the shining.

The part about the traveling vamps is where I get worried. Its been done, too often, even by himself. Also, considering Danny's past, I'd rather him deal with something more in line with the Shinning. Ghosts, or demons, etc. Vamps, just seem too far from normal supernatural, and into normal monster territory.

It's a one paragraph blurb. Perhaps it was easier to say "vampire" than it would have been to explain some sort of new hybrid, psychic, soul-sucking creature that can be kinda, sorta be called a "vampire"... especially if you were in a hurry. |

I'll read it, and I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, because some stories sound like crap when you look at the summary but end up being really good. I've really not disliked a King book yet.

Crap for me was Lisey's Story. I've enjoyed each book immensely from him and it'll be interesting to see where this one goes.

Why would this be embarrassing for King? He's writing stories that still matter to him and he's not exactly 'jumped the shark' by bringing in vampires...he's used them for years.

These are going to be more "psychic" vampires from what I hear.
