I know that screen savers original purpose was to prevent older monitors from having images that where left of the screen to long without change from burning into the monitor. With the monitors we use today this really isn’t an issue. So how important are kindle screen savers for e-ink technology monitors? I’ve noticed sometimes after reading for awhile traces of letters on the screen when I go to Home main menu. Is it important to rotate screen savers and have a variation of images on your screen. Or can I safely have just one screen saver? I know these are questions that are kind of out there but they’ve been on my mind and I’d love to know the answers. |

Eink screens do not suffer from "burn in"; there's no technical reason to have "screen savers" - they are there purely for entertainment. The effect you describe is called "ghosting" and is inherent in eInk technology. That's why the screen flashes black when you turn the page. |

The only value of "screensavers" on an eink device like the Kindle, and this is a real value, is that their presence indicates that the device is in its "sleep mode" and not actually powered down. The Kindle's software is designed to display the images when in sleep mode and to display a blank screen when actually turned off.

Do the modern flat LED monitors get burn in? What sort of screens do cell phones, smart phones and blackberries use?

Why would a reset take longer than a wake up from full power off? For more evidence, see: http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/r...x1MY2ISK92QX3H

I haven't heard of burn-in being a problem with monitors for a while. I see a lot of people with concerns with plasma/LCD TV's and burn-in, but even those are much much better in regards to that anymore.

And of course LCDs can suffer from stuck or dead pixels that can't be repaired.

I'd really like to see a wider variety of screen savers for the kindle. I get sick of seeing the same ones all the time.
