Its this kind of misinformation that is a constant in such debates. Whatever your feelings about DRM, at least make it clear that there are non-DRM-stripping ways of backing up and restoring your ebook collection.
Wrong.
Not if they go out of business. Quit being an apologist for DRM.

I am all for removing DRM, and sending it to a museum. It did not do anything good to the music buisness. I think the same will happen to about books.
But that still leaves me with the problem "how do I get it off my books" Not because I want to cheat anyone. Butt if I have to buy different readers for different books, my life will be complicated. The fact that only few big shops sell to danish addresses, does not make it easyer.

I find i kind of insulting to be regarded as criminel, without any reason. And I like to determin myself where I will put my books, just as noone can tell me were to place my paperbooks.

Can anyone help me? Then I can show my husband the answer. I love to read, but tecnic is not my best side.

It boggles my mind why anyone that pays for the books that they read and have no plan to redistribute them to others, would worry about removing the DRM. Nothing is going to happen to you. This is a civil matter and no one is going to sue you, over this silliness.

Yup! This crap has been going on and blathered about and ignored by the masses forever.

It didn't work for people backing up their records with cassette tapes, or cds dvds, and now ebooks.

The publishers etc. can say what they like, but people are going to consider their ebooks as their property thereby having the right to back them up so that they aren't dependent on any business if said business goes belly up or simply changes their mind and decides to stop keeping their customers copies.

It is an unenforceable law and always will be.

Horsepucky. Please READ what I post before you tell me I'm full of it. If you feel the need to grovel to DRM, go right ahead. But don't try to pretend that a backup with DRM on is a protection against catastrophic failure. Or against the provider of the book going out of business, or just deciding to stop selling that version of DRM'd book.

You are right on the money --- and buying only non-DRM books is just not an option at this point.

Then maybe you should post DRM removal techniques on this forum, since the law is toothless and what could happen, right? You should add your name and address, too, just to put your money where your mouth is.

No? Didn't think so.

I look at the world as it is, not as how I'd like it to be. As it is, these laws are on the books and if you want to avoid any possibility of legal entanglement, you should act according to the law. Just sayin'.

And the possibility of ending up in legal entanglement is slim to none and you know it.

You can rant and rave all you want, but the fact remains that the majority of otherwise law abiding citizens don't give a crap about this toothless law. What they care about is keeping and securing their legally bought and paid for property.

We simply refuse to be held hostage to greedy corporations who would prefer for us to keep rebuying the same books over and over again whenever they decide to switch formats, servers, go out of business, or whatever. It's NOT going to happen.

It didn't work for mp3s and it's not going to work for ebooks.

Just because a law is on the books doesn't mean that it is just or that it is right. There have been plenty that have been struck down. My guess is that this will be one of them as far as personal use goes. And in the meantime, people will continue to strip drm.
