Good point, but...

I try not to tailor my replies based on who might be reading them, or where they might be posted. I believe consistency should be a virtue.

yup most of the kindle owners saying library lending was a useless feature took place mostly in the What should I buy sub forum, and some in the General.

but I do love the selective memory on kindles owners.

I just really can't wait to see what a God like experience they are going to express with the kindle color ereader tablet comes out. And then reflect back on all those basically hate filled troll posts in the BN Nook subforum on the Nook color.
I just love the rose colored lenses and double standards they posses on this forum

Holding an entire demographic responsible for the opinions of a few vocal extremists seems a bit petty and pointless to me.

And I can't wait for you to mistakenly assume you that those who inevitably do end up thinking it's "the greatest thing ever invented" were the same people who weren't interested in it, at all. You should look into a narrower paintbrush. Your wide one is getting paint in places it doesn't belong.

sigh

I have collected all the data from the kindle owners who responded with their hatred don't you worry

Many of us have multiple devices. It's a non-issue -- unless of course you grabbed one flag and waved it precipitously.

Back to my book.

Kudos to Amazon for its rollout of its lending feature. Although I haven't tested it , yet, it seems to work pretty well.

I expect Amazon to look to build on and monetize this capability, since I'm sure it didn't create this feature just to be "friendly" . More on that anon.

I did say that it was not an important feature for me and that I recommended the Nook and Sony for those who wanted to read at the library. And then I would normally say that I will be thrilled when the Kindle can be used at the library because it will remove the issue.

Most people who bought Kindles were not interested in using the library because it was not an option. Having that option is nice. I will happily test it out but I don't see myself using it all that frequently. If something happens to the family funding source I would probably use the library.

actually I think they did implament it because it was one of the glaring con's that were pointed out when trying to decide on which ereader to buy.
For it's first few years when it basically had no competition, I don't think they really cared all that much. Now that they don't have a stranglehold on the ereader market like they once did, they do have to make changes in order to maintain their position .

It's a reactionary move , no doubt. As is coming out with an ereader tablet similiar to the nook color.

Which is all to the good - competition keeps them on their toes and benefits everyone.

I'm sure Amazon would prefer to be the only game in town, but that benefits no one but them.

I hope the Sony T1 proves popular enough that it forces them to provide library integration and more open access, too.

Since the *reading* experience is pretty much the same on all e-ink readers, it's the *user* experience that needs to be enhanced from reader to reader to keep things interesting - where and how one gets one's books and how easy and/or expensive that acquisition process is.

yup I agree, I'm not a big fan of the current crop of kindles nor the lack of epub but the kindle makes the nook better and the nook makes the kindle better.

actually it's not...it depends on the User Interface - touch-screen, buttons/controls and to move beyond the e-ink experience on a tablet or computer the UI and the features and display etc. are all very different depending on the app/application.

Just tried it. It works OK for the NOBLE libraries (North of Boston Library Exchange). This is very convenient, it means I won't have to fire up the jetBook to read a library book anymore.

That would be so cool!

When the Overdrive digital bookmobile came to my local library, I talked to them, and they made it sound like the same thing happening for ebooks was going to happen for audiobooks. But it might just mean that if you have an i-thingy, it'll provide an Apple-formatted DRM'd audiobook in place of the WRM, rather than just switching them all to MP3.
