Sony doesn't charge your CC until the reader is in the process of being shipped. I've bought x00 and x50 readers from them, so I know that is how they conduct business. Once your CC gets charged, you can expect that the reader is being shipped within a day or two of the charge.

I just placed an order with the UK Sony Store on the internet, rang up afterwards to check about when I would be charged for it and they said they would be debiting my card immediately.

I cancelled my pre order and will risk waiting, not prepeared to pay now when I have no idea when i'll get it.

Interesting, I see the same thing, along with a CC charge for it. Looks like the ship date will be on time, possibly a little early for some.

I just pre-ordered the black one (only one available) on UK store. My money has been taken already. No idea when the despatch date is....

I wonder why in the UK they take the pre order money straight away? I am sure others have said in the US they don't debit the CC until they are ready to ship.

Will phone later and try to find out and see if anyone knows a release date for the UK.

Just rang the UK Sony Store and have been told its around the third week in October for release in the UK. They will ring me back when they have an exact date (after all they want the sale!) and a price for the lighted cover.

My PRS-T1 is ready to ship and my credit card has been charged, that's the good news, the other news(not really bad news, just a bummer) is that the cover with light I ordered isn't ready yet.

The 150 Euro price for Germany includes VAT, while the US price doesn't include any sort of taxes in it. That only accounts for part of the difference, I know... but I had to pay tax on top of the price, rather than have it included.

As I've said in other threads, there's 3 things that come to mind that can account for parts of the difference on their own. The obvious one is a lack of tax. But the shipping routes are different for Europe and US for goods leaving China, making shipping to Europe more expensive. Tariffs and tax in Europe tend to be higher than in the US, so I'd expect some to come from that as well. With how large VAT can get, that accounts for ~24 Euros if we use the example of Germany again, so the question is, can the shipping and tariffs account for the other 25 Euros when combined?

A charge or a hold? Even in the US they do an authorization when you order, but they let the pending charge fall off. A subtle but important distinction.

With tax my T1 was around $160.00 US.

And I paid over 15$ in tax. But the point is that VAT is based on the final selling price. If something sells for 150 Euros with a VAT rate of 19% (Germany as the example again), then I need to divide 150 by 1.19 (119%) to get the pre-VAT price. From there I can try to whittle down the remaining differences, but it isn't like I can just add 19% to the US pre-tax price to see that VAT should "only" be 19 Euros instead of 24. Those 5 Euros are kinda important when trying to understand the pricing.

Definately charged the full rate of £134.99 I thought maybe they might have taken a quid out to make sure my card worked. It could be possible that they will return the full amount and debit it again later when the reader is actually available.
