I was just taken aback a bit, that's all. I certainly don't want to make it sound like a bigger deal than it is, but I'm just surprised that they would choose to make it "go away" as opposed to just rendering the file unusable like epub library books.

Actually, that's been slowly converting over the last month or so. I've been noticing that some of the backlist books I wanted that had only been PDF or Mobi were now available in ePub. Not all. So I don't know if it's still happening, or if those books will remain only PDF. But it's been great to catch up on some old series books that I'd wanted.

![]() I'm still reading the book I borrowed so I haven't had a chance to check out how it behaves myself. I know mobi files that had been kindlefix'd didn't go away when they expired. |

I find this all soo amusing. Back when the kindle could not check out books from the library, every kindle fan would say "who cares" " there's a waiting list" " you can only have the book for 2 weeks" and every other downplaying phrase and excuses basically saying it was a useless feature that all other ereaders had.
but NOW it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Can't wait to see the kindles version of the nook color and remember all the comments on how the LCD ereader is waste and not a real ereader blah blah blah. When it's announce it will be the greatest thing ever invented. sigh ![]() |

I have a few books that I will check out to see how the library thing works. I would like to be able to show my parents how it works so that they can check out books. My Dad goes to the library all the time. Mainly I am happy that people who want a Kindle but want to check out library books can. |

I also remember people saying that other readers have book borrowing options and therefore are better, with kindle owners replying that it doesn't matter, they wouldn't use the option anyway because of limitation like borrowing limits and waiting lists. |

I noticed that for the Philadelphia Free Library, most of the Open EPub books are not available in Kindle format (maybe 1 in 20). I looked at one in particular, and it was available as Open Epub at the library, and was on Amazon's site, but wasn't available in Kindle Format at the library.
Is there some restriction with Open Epub, or are they still ramping up? |

I noticed several of the new (in the "new eBooks" section, not open eBooks) books not being available as Kindle books as well. I don't know if they might get added as Kindle books later.

Actually, my 'to-read' list is well over 150 titles at this time. It is not likely that between the library pBooks and Kindle-available Overdrive eBooks and pBook-loaning friends that I will hit the wall anytime soon and actually have to purchase something to read -- except maybe another eReader -- just to cover the bases, you know ...
