Beside the fact that you can choose not to upgrade, I have serious doubts about "any change can be made to your software or your computer's memory". It's a breach of security.

Since Amazon was the one who sold them the "counterfeit $20 bill", I would say that the people were unlucky and Amazon got off easy.

I was not aware of that! So Amazon could topple western civilization as we know it.

When Ghandi was asked what he thought of western civilization he said that he thought it would be a very good idea.

Sorry for my previous post. Feeling a little cynical today.

Anyway, Mrs Joseph, I have not looked in or into those books but I do remember a bit of excitement about Amazon removing some books that fell under a particular genre. I think that was it.

If these books were just stories of people with reversed sexual orientation, I see no reason for them to be removed, but I think I heard that they were that and much more.

Dare I say to a gentle lady, they may have been of a scurrilous nature?
Quote:
LGBT (or GLBT) is an initialism that collectively refers to "lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender" people. In use since the 1990s, the term "LGBT" is an adaptation of the initialism "LGB", which itself started replacing the phrase "gay community" beginning in the mid-to-late 1980s,[1] which many within the community in question felt did not accurately represent all those to whom it referred.[2]

The term LGBT is intended to emphasize a diversity of "sexuality and gender identity-based cultures" and is sometimes used to refer to anyone who is non-heterosexual or cisgender instead of exclusively to people who are homosexual, bisexual, or transgender.[2][3] To recognize this inclusion, a popular variant adds the letter Q for those who identify as queer and are questioning their sexual identity (e.g., "LGBTQ" or "GLBTQ", recorded since 1996[4]).

The initialism has become mainstream as a self-designation and has been adopted by the majority "sexuality and gender identity-based" community centers and media in the United States and some other English-speaking countries.[5][6]
There were pages upon pages of books removed from Amazon. Scurrilous. What does this word mean to you? The majority of the books pulled had plots that were between two consenting adults. After a huge uproar, a lot of the books "reappeared."

Maybe you should spend some time researching "your friend" Amazon and it's actions of the last 4-5 years. It just might be eye-opening. And no. I am not going to spend my time looking it up for you.

Eh. That just makes them like pretty much any other bookstore - they receive complaints that some books (ie, the LGBT ones) they're carrying are pornographic and obscene and they get pulled (and stopped at the border, in the case of physical books) and put them back later once a fuss in that direction is made.

We'll see.

As much as I detest most forms of censorship*...If I'm looking for a title that Amazon refuses to carry, chances are I will find it somewhere else. Therefore, Amazon loses a sale.

If I feel strongly enough about it, I would gather all of the tiles that I bought elsewhere, including their prices and write a "Here are all of the sales you lost becuase you chose to censor what I could buy from you" letter.

If enough people are willing to to do that, maybe, just maybe they would think twice about it. They are in business to make money...why only get $20.00 from me if they can get $100.00.

* Works advocating child pornography, hate speech and racism does all harm and no good, therefore I will gladly see it all banned.

Oh no my dear, there is no need to look further, you have already given me WAY WAY TOO MUCH information.

As for my friend Amazon's actions, it would appear someone raised an issue about these titles, and as a protector of the public's common good, Amazon felt it necessary to investigate the issue and upon clearing the matter up, put the books back into play.
This action coincides with your description.

As is a common wont in sport, "No harm, no foul."

This action is not unheard of at Amazon, though I don't know how common it is. I have personally seen where there were complaints about electronic hardware and Amazon made a note that they had temporarily suspended the product while they investigated. This is good due diligence from a company that is trying it's best to be a good citizen. And by the way this particular product was also returned to the catalog as it seems were those books.

You see, Amazon is not only our friend, but a good citizen as well.

First I have programmed computers in both assembly level language and higher level languages, and if a program has access to your machine, it can change anything in it. In these cases of course the security on the machine has already opened the door wide.

You seem to be forgetting that Amazon made good on the book.
